Philadelphia's Christmas Tea Party Of 1773

Philadelphia has always had a tradition of celebrating the holiday season with style and gusto and celebrations during the Colonial Era were no exception. One Christmas Season was especially unique!

The days following Christmas 1773 and preceding New Year 5 Day 1774, were different from previous Christmas seasons. Believe it or not, but the holiday excitement and political tension that existed during then was due to tea, but it wasn't the tea's caffeine that caused the social stimulation.

The party that's on my mind right now is the one they had in Boston a couple years later.

( where they made the biggest cup of tea that the world has known)

Well, most Americans recognize the Boston Tea Party. Only a very few are even aware of the Pilly tea talk. Unfortunately, it illustrates the PR value of activist demonstration.

How things have changed. We now have Gov. 'Fast Eddie' Rendell who used to be Mayor of Philadelphia showing class by throwing iceballs at Santa.
