I love these threads, for the history and for the pure pleasure of seeing the creativity of our grandfathers. This quote from the thread: Although the Army Air Force attempted to ban and censor noseart on several occasions, ultimately, the art would remain. Its value in terms of morale was unquestioned.
I think, to me, that's really interesting. It was also interesting to me to read how the artwork - especially of the pinup gals has changed over the years. A lot of the pinup art was of girls who had the "girl next door" look - IOW, they weren't the fantasy girls, but were girls that the guys really wanted to come home to. That surprised me!
