Given the competitive and somewhat adversarial nature of science, I would say overly sensitive and emotionally weak "feminists" like these have no business even thinking about a science career. In fact, maybe they should just stay home, where they're safe and their feelings won't be hurt.
Ask ten men "Which way is north?" and then ask ten women which way north is. An easy majority of men will be able to tell you, and a large majority of women will say "I don't know"
I know where north is. The other directions, too. It's so much easier to say "Get off Exit 24 and head east," than "Get off Exit 24 and turn--um, let me think a minute--left--no, right--let's see, since I'm right handed, it must be--but if you're coming from the other direction, it's left."
LOL....I have a woman friend who doesn't even know LEFT from RIGHT, let alone north from south....literally.....claims she wasn't born with the "gene".....when you ride with her you have to point which way to turn.
A friend of mine has a problem with the left, right thing too. I caught her using a little trick she uses to er, counteract against the missing gene. Make an "L" with your index finger & thumb. The "L"eft hand will make an "L", while on the right hand the "letter" is backwards.
For the record, when I give directions, I give them in N, S, E & W, plus include whether a turn is to the right or left. Generally, I know which way it which, unless I've gotten myself totally turned around & lost. When that happens, my X chromosome tells me to stop somewhere to ask to look at a map, so I can figure out where I am & the best way to get where I'm looking to go. ;o)
The Norsk Vikings were bullied by the Danish Vikings, so I think the Norwegians had a rightful b!tch with the Swedes for messing in Danish territory & giving the Danes cause to launch their boats towards the north.
The kids are headed for chefs' and auto mechanics' schools in Phoenix (both three year programs). Parents figure it's a lot more cost effective than 4 years at universities learning political correctness plus the additional 4 years or so required to shake the BS out of their heads afterwards. I don't know about the schools you mention.
I'm afraid I don't have the directions gene either, but my shopping skills are genetically advanced!
