It's more complicated than that -- there are intersections between old wasp money and old jewish money (yes, there is such a thing) in that world. For instance, a Guggenheim would have no problems getting into one of those apartments. There is also old Italian money, etc, However, there are places where even old money has trouble cracking the elite, such as Fisher Island, etc.

Absolutely such a thing as old Jewish money.

Some of the leading Atlanta families are Jewish. Several of the old Southern Jewish families were prominent in the Confederacy. They pretty much have entree anywhere around here, at least with the folks that matter. Some old Italian money here too, think they came here from New Orleans.

Don't even get me started on the pecking order in New Orleans. You need a scorecard.

Is the Guggenheim family descended from German-Jewish immigrants who came to America long before the mass immigration of Eastern-European Jews? I've read somewhere that there was a lot of friction between the established German Jews and the later Eastern-European Jewish immigrants in NY and elsewhere...

Joe Kennedy knew this.
That is why Jackie O married his dim son.
If it weren't for her, her two spawn never would have been accepted in New York.
I doubt any Kennedy except Caroline could get into that building.

No, but a Guggenheim wouldn't bother with the board...he'd buy the block.

Well, the "Googs" were always on the more "troublesome" side of the "Our Crowd" group.

The Shiffs and the Warburgs looked down their noses at them.
