the idea that all those folks are somehow 'jumpers' was never convincing to me. Some clearly were more likely jumpers than not - the couple holding hands that separated on their way down strike me as jumpers, for example.

Remember people were trying to get away from the smoke and oppressive heat. I think most of the folks hanging out by a window ultimately succumbed to the heat and passed out, and fell.

To call them jumpers isn't meaningful. The truth is, we really don't know anything more than that they fell. an atrocity to be sure, but to call everyone who fell a 'jumper' doesn't make much sense.

He always posted under a proxy server. And he was issuing taunts about the thwarted Heathrow attacks two years ago. The only time he slipped up on using a proxy server was when he posted from Djibouti while on what was most likely a terror summit around 3 years ago. Life is priceless. I'd rather be motivated by duty. My duty is to defeat jihad. If you think EVERY single person who views videos like this, does so with the "junkyard dog" mentality that you describe, you have a poor view of your fellow man.

I never saw that before and didn't realize that so many people jumped.

USA Today did a big article about the jumpers on (IIRC) the second commemoration.
They looked at all the archival material and talked to the city authorities about
the likely number that jumped. I can't remember what exact numbers they gave,
but I think it was around 250-300 as a best guess.

Interesting things in the article:
1. USA Today admitted they and most of the MSM had really self-censored
the images of jumpers. And said it was a real judgement call of whether
they should show the images and be accussed of exploitation...
or not show them and be accussed of whitewashing history.
(to USA Today's credit, they included some jumper photos that I'd never seen
before. One was of a "stick" of maybe six or seven people falling
in an arc, just like a bunch of parachutists that have exited a plane
in a very fast, precise manner.)

2. The article said that the deaths of the jumpers did serve a purpose...
as in motivating a lot of people in South Tower to just ignore those
"everything is fine, return to your desks" voice announcements, and
thus run for the exits and safety.
