Just remember that when there is no lettuce in your supermarket since it rots in fields with no pickers to pick it, you wait 30 minutes at a Burger King drive thru, and the bathroom at your office is filthy.
I don't see "home grown" Americans exactly lining up for those jobs. The only thing I see on this thread is xenophobia run amuck and people putting their head in the sand to the fact that we share a 1500 mile border with Mexico.
Well, let's see. The current estimate of 14 million Mexicans with approx. 3 million being illegal, there should be enough farm labor to last for the nexr 50 years yet they still continue swarming across our southern borders like locusts.
Would you still maintain your benevolent stance if 14 million ChiComs came swarming across our borders?
That's a little wierd considering that before the mass welfare immigration we had better service, people who could get my order right BECAUSE THEY SPEAK ENGLISH, and our restrooms were actually without the mess left by immigrant vandals. We had lettuce every week, our welfare system wasn't clogged with illegals, our schools didn't have the violence brought by the illegals, and our cities were less crime ridden. My wife is a social worker, so I hear and see this crap every day. Seems we had a better country before the illegals.
Funny, too, is that the legal Mexican immigrants do very well and usually participate positively in American society. My best friend for several years was a first generation American from Mexico, and he was absolutely the most upstanding person I have ever met: Chrisitan, happily married to an American, 4 girls of great charater, etc.
That is because we (GWB) is and wants to give the lazy US @ssholes a free ride via entitlements. Cut off the support from the taxes of the people who work and let them either pick the lettuce and clean the johns or starve.
I would love to see how many of these fat @sses would commit suicide by starvation.
"Home Grown" Americans did those jobs before, and will do them again if the pay and conditions are not Third World. And I won't mind paying a little more for my lettuce, burgers and clean toilets when we send the Mexican invaders home. Because I'll be paying less in taxes, breathing cleaner air, dealing with less traffic, and feeling a little safer on my streets.
Why is "xenophobia" considered a bad thing? 200,000 of human evolution has hardwired the fact that strangers are usually trouble into our skulls. Ignoring your instincts is the fastest road to personal extinction!
Scuse me, but if American Citizens were offered these jobs, they would take them, I'll bet Also, those on unemployment would have to, those on welfare would have to, there are many scenarios to fill these quotas.
Why do they have to be illegal aliens to do this? I picked Tobacco in Ct when growing up. Now, they fly in Jamacans or Dominicans on work visas to do the work, LEGALLY, and when the season is over, they go home. We can surely do that to lettuce pickers, eh?

OK, enough of this myth. I have worked these jobs. I am a 34yo lily-white male of British and Scandinavian heritage. My parents were very well off while I was in my later years of growing up. I scrubbed floors, toilets, ashtrays, bakeries, horse stalls, hospitals, etc. I did this to pay for college and have spending money. Many of my peers were illegals, but most were other white-males of the suburbs of San Francisco/Oakland. Young males can perform these jobs as a way to enter the work force. Perhaps if the gov't goodie-goodie programs were not paying the bottom 10% of the population not to work, we would not need to import unskilled labor. An additional benefit would be the economic expansion of that squandered capital being reinvested in creating real jobs for these unskilled as they matured in the work force. The only thing I see on this thread is xenophobia run amuck and people putting their head in the sand to the fact that we share a 1500 mile border with Mexico.
The only thing I hear from neo-cons and social libs is the perpetuation of the myth of the "need" for these illegals. It is not xenophobia to ask that your country hold on to what made it great, and spinning welfare checks to all points of the globe isn't what made America great. The hordes of unskilled illegals which flood our nation is an unqualified disaster.
If I knew what a pain in the a$$ they would be, I would have picked my own lettuce, flipped my own burger, and scrubbed my own toilet. Wait a minute, I already did. What's your excuse?
Those are jobs which should be filled by welfareites who should be put to work doing menial unskilled labor instead of being allowed to lay around and breed.
You mean that before illegals, America didn't have lettuce, fast food, or janitors?
I clearly remember an English speaking person getting my order right, lettuce being fresh, and bathrooms being FAR cleaner than they are today.

I guess that means that the Mexicans who are here legally, that are complaining about not being able to get a job because the illegals will work for less are a part of that xenophobia.
You folks that scream xenophobia really ought to spend some time at ground zero before you start calling names.
They can take there filthy lettuce and shove it up burger kings drive through.
This lettuce BS is to much. There are 2 million illegals in the greater Los Angeles, Southern California area alone, and not a stinking lettuce field in sight. Whats the message here, that there are *2 million* illegal aliens working at 50 or 60 fast food joints? When pigs fly.
