I love it so far....except for the reply to ALL option...Hope John removes it or lets each user set a preference for it.

I'd also like to see posts color-coded or otherwise conspicuously marked as to whether they are from-user, to-user, or to-all.

I think the All is useful for ongoing threads that change daily.
for example the Guild thread, whoever starts the new thread posts to:
All with new url, everyone on that thread (only) gets notified.
All would be useful on a thread where a VALID new post, i.e. real breaking news,
i.e. just found out ... was a hoax or whatever.
All valid for urgent announcement on a thread like ...Today deadline to mail packages to troops etc.
Again All only posts to those on that particular thread.
I think some posters got upset when a lot of people on last thread (recent changes)
got "pinged" by everyone else on that thread.
and that's my 2 cents worth!

From topher:
One feature John Robinson and company could add, though it might be troublesome, is to put the searchers screenname in the pinged list, as the first one, if it is in the list of those being pinged.

As an example of this would be:

To: John Robinson; Deport; Irma; Commander in Chief; Jim Robinson; Ron Paul; ...

If your name was in the ... part (or truncated part of the to list), then it should read as follows:

To: topher; John Robinson; Deport; Irma; Commander in Chief; Jim Robinson; ...

Agreed. Also, if "all" remains enabled (either globally or through a setting), would like to see that put up front as well (either before or after an actual ping would work).
From secretagent:
Further, on the topic of "Preferences", the selection menu for number of article lead-in words seems stuck at 100.
Haven't touched the article lead-in setting for a while, though it does NOT apply to the new self-search. I have some rather lengthy replies that display in full when I have that option selected.
From xm177e2:

change the links in the self-search page from target=_slave to target=new

make some change on the self-search page so replies TO you stand out from your own comments

reactivate the "to:" as a link to the thread you're replying to!

activate the names after the "to:" as links, to their profile pages (or, for bump lists, to "find in forums")

Get rid of the caret after all of our names

Keep up the good work!

First, the targets are now selectable in the Focus settings menu. As a side note, is the url option enabled or going to be enabled in the links from the forum? If not, then that part of the URL can be axed from the coding to save a wee bit of bandwidth (just trying to save the bandwidth :-) .

Without more info as to exactly how you want the replies to you to stand out, can't quite comment fully on that. If you're using "new-look", you can force the link to your FReeper profile page that comes in the "Comment by" line to look different by editing (or entering) a specific font color/type/size/decoration in the .fr_header A:link comment and the .fr_header A:visited comment.

The "to:" searches are, per JohnRob, permanently broken in Perl/Forum 2.0. I THINK JohnRob set something up for bump lists, though I can't remember yet. As for the remainder of the searches, that'll be restored when Focus search is up and running.

I never noticed the caret, and it's not there now (at least in IE6 or in the source code).

Echo on the last comment. Thanks for putting up a thread after Self-Search 3.0 (I know John's calling the whole package Focus 1.0, but it's still Forum 3.0 to me-VBG) went live.

One last gripe; with the new-look self-search, there is no link that goes directly to the reply (a real pain if the brief method or anything short of the full reply is selected). If you could work it in there, say at the reply number like the Old-Style/Classic methods, would be appreciated by both us and the server.

Guess I should have read the Focus settings page a bit more carefully; the caret is there to designate links that open in a new window (since I don't have things set that way, I never saw it). IMHO, it should only exist for debugging purposes.

I see the "?new=1" feature still works on self-search if typed in manually (for those who missed the beta-test thread, that feature limits self-search to posts to/from you (or all as self-search currently stands) after you last checked. When can we expect that to show up on the self-search page as a button?

Better yet, at least from a bandwidth standpoint, make that the default and allow an expanded self-search via a link.

When I accessed FR using a bookmark of http://206.112.97.70/ I would have to log in every time I attempted to reply or use the "settings" button. Apparently the cookies are not being set when using this URL.

I am using IE 6 and do not have the problem using the http://www.freerepublic.com URL and my settings and preferences work.

Thanks for what you do. I love this new version.

I agree with the 'reply to all' comment. More often than not that is not something I would go back to read but when it automatically pings you to it you have no idea that it is not a direct post to you.

I note that the injuction against personal attacks and racist and violent posts is missing from the reply page; I caught it while replying to a disruptor.
