Remember, if you will, that the proclamation issued by Lincoln did not free slaves in northern states, It was not an issue of freedom for slaves, and certainly not one of equality. The entire point was a terrorist attempt to start an uprising of Blacks in the South -- Blacks, many of whom fought beside the White soldiers of the Confederacy.
