These would all be "willing sellers", of course. No matter that they are "willing" because the proposed state coho listing is will be used as leverage to assert a minimum instream flow before their very old adjudicated water use rights. Land here is worthless without water. Realtors are already having to disclose the threat that water use rights will be useless.
This is a repeat of what happened in the Klamath Basin just northeat of here. It really, really makes me mad. They have already killed the timber and gold mining industries and we have no industry. Don't they realize that the ag infrastructure - businesses that serve ag- need a minimum customer base to remain viable? Don't they realize that ag money circulates through the small communities 6-7x ? Don't they realize that more than 65% of our County is already government "owned" and that taking land off the tax rolls will destroy income to the county to provide services to the retirees and few tourists who will remain?
Oh, and if they try to claim that the increased flows are needed to overcome temperature issues, a study was just done showing that increases in flows of several magnitudes made not one iota of difference in the temperatures. The summer streams were still too hot for fish. (Maybe that is why chinook abound and coho are "threatened." Chinook get out of the system in the spring and coho stick around.)
