Bush Orders New Student Visa Rules

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush ordered a crackdown Monday on foreign student visas -- the documents that gave one of the Sept. 11 terrorist hijackers access to this country.

"We're going to start asking a lot of questions that heretofore have not been asked," Bush said.

It might be nice if someone addressed that sieve that borders the southern United States.

Its nowhere near enough.

If we lived in a country free of the self enforced ignorance of PC. The first thing we would have done is close the borders at least temporarily to all.

What we should do now is have a moratorium on all immigration from middle eastern countries. All persons on watch lists should be immediately deported. All illegal immigrants from the middle east should be immediately deported. Legal immigrants from middle eastern countries should be heavily scrutinized, any suspected of having ties to terrorists should be immediately deported.

That (or at least something very similar) is what a rational country at war who had "visitors" kill thousands of people would do. Instead we're letting political correctness allow the enemy into our house. We WILL pay the price for it.

This is a good sign. It happened about as fast as such an initiative can get researched, proposed, and acted upon. The borders are a bigger task.

You know, 20 years ago, when I voted Democrat and was an idealistic young liberal, I STILL wondered why we were teaching Iranians and Red Chinese physics, chemistry, nuclear engineering, microbiology...all the best MIT had to offer. It didn't seem to me that everyone who came here was a friend of America then. It does not matter if they are genuine students or not. We can't tell if they are terrorists or not. We can't tell what they will use against us when they go home. NO students from the Muslim countries, indefinitely. Finish the semester and go home, sorry. The terrorists must be rubbing their hands in disbelieving glee, wondering just how many of their number and their sympathizers they can send in before we finally come to our senses.

What about using polygraph interrogations prior to issuing visas and while they are in the US. Also what about requiring any foreign student to sign an oath to not participate in any terrorist plots against the US.

Mexico is complaining that our border security is so tight that Mexicans are using up their cocain supply. It is hurting their economy and causing addictions. Another good sign?
