I live in a neighborhood with a high concentration of prosperous, educated Jewish baby boomers. Prior to 9/11, I would describe most of them as doctrinaire moderate left; having a sort of eye-rolling contempt for Dubya and anything GOP.

Since the attack, many of these same neighbors have undergone foxhole conversions, and are unabashedly supporting Bush and the war effort. As Jews, I think they understand better than anyone what's at stake.

We Jews have reasons to worry because the West ignores this Jew-hatred. One reason is that Third World evil is rarely taken seriously among Western elites. A second reason is the psychological and political need of Westerners to believe that Islamic societies are, with the exception of "a few extremists," tolerant societies. And the third reason is that Arab/Muslim anti-Semitism is dismissed as a temporary phenomenon that will disappear when Israelis and Palestinians make peace. But this belief inverts reality. The lack of peace between the Jewish state and its neighbors is not the cause of Arab anti-Semitism, it is the result of that anti-Semitism. Since 1948, there has been one reason for the Arab-Israeli conflict - the Arab/Muslim world rejects the concept of a Jewish (or any non-Muslim) state in its midst.

Some of us are very aware of the hatred of the Jewish people and we are angry that some of our leaders would compromise the safety of the Jewish people for political reasons.We watched "the kiss" with horror...and now watch the guarded language of the current administration .We heard the trial balloon offering the "seperate state "idea.

I saw a CNN special where a little 6 year old boy said he would"hate" America untill we "stopped" prosecuting muslims and allowed Islam to become the world religion..that was from the mouth of a 6 year old..

The biggest issue in all this mess is our support of Israel....the question will be will America seek peace at any price.That is what the zealots of Islam are counting on.

The Moslem countries typically declare Islam is its official religeon, thus they have the right to treat all others as second class citizens. Similarly, Israel calls itself the Jewish state, and grant preferance to jews over others. We in America, do not declare that we are a Christian state. That is simply because we respect all religeons, and all citizens are equal regardless of their faith. If Israel was truly a democratic state, it would not call itself a "Jewish State"!

This was a very good article. So direct and simple. It could have been written by a talented 14 year old Israeli with a gift for literacy. It can not be understood by the assembled 'brains' of the United States State Dept. nor President Bush evidentlly. I think America is going to die.

Americans may recall the flap over then-First Lady Hillary Clinton listening to the wife of Yasir Arafat state that Israel was poisoning Palestinian water supplies. Like the Nazis, many Arab/Muslim societies attribute to Jews virtually all evils, including, for example, deliberately spreading AIDS in the Arab world.

What I don't understand is how she could garner the majority of Jewish votes in NY State, if this incident really represented a dangerous viewpoint to them. I mean I understand how Republicans acquired their bad reputation with many Jewish voters, but why is the same not true for Hillary or Bill; especially knowing that Israel holds no special place in their political philosophy. Any Republican who would have been purported to utter the phrase "All you jews care about is money" would have been crucified, and yet she went on to deflect the statement with some claptrap about being part Jewish, due to the fact that her grandmother had married someone who was Jewish, and all was forgotten. I just don't understand how she could have won so many Jewish votes considering her contempt for Israel, and possibly even Jews themselves.
