But fortunately they are getting serious and go after the enemies:

'Neo-Nazis are main anthrax suspects'

Oct 29 2001

AMERICAN security services believe white supremacists in the US are behind the recent anthrax attacks.

They are also close to finding those responsible for sending the letters containing deadly spores of the disease.

The Sun quotes a US justice department source as saying links between neo-Nazis and Muslim extremists are also being investigated.

The source said: "These are groups organised into militia and survivalist movements.

"They pull out of society and take to the hills to make war on the government and they will support anyone else doing the same."

"We have to presume that their opposition to government is just as virulent as that of the Islamic terrorists, if not as accomplished."

The newspaper also says a message on the neo-Nazi National Alliance website after the World Trade Centre attack read: "The enemy of our enemy is, for now at least, our friend."

A senior US official said: "Everything seems to lean towards a domestic source. Nothing seems to fit with an overseas terrorist type operation."

And here we have one info about Israeli help:

Israeli intelligence warned US days before attacks

IAN BRUCE

ISRAEL'S military intelligence service, Aman, issued an urgent warning of an impending terrorist "spectacular" against America, several days before the suicide bombers flew passenger airliners into New York's Trade Towers and the Pentagon on September 11.

Aman had no details of the targets, but picked up enough indicators of major terrorist activity from a combination of informants and electronic eavesdropping to send out an alert, which also covered US interests in Britain, France and Germany.

Much of the Israeli intelligence centred on Imad Mughniyeh, head of the Iranian-backed Hizbollah movement's foreign operations section, and on Dr Ayman Al Zawahiri, the Egyptian-born terrorist mastermind reputed to be Osama bin Laden's chosen successor.

The Israelis say they have evidence linking both men to agents representing SSO, Iraq's foreign intelligence service, and believe Baghdad has provided finance and logistical support to them.

Links between the terrorist network and Iraq have been established by Pakistan's shadowy ISI agency and by the Czech Republic's counter-intelligence service.

Salah Suleiman, an Iraqi SSO agent, was detained on the Pakistan border last October after a series of trips into Taliban-controlled territory to meet bin Laden. After interrogation, he was deported.

Iraqi agent, Ahmad Khalil Ibrahim Samir Al-Ani, has been expelled by the Czechs for "conduct incompatible with his diplomatic status". They had been monitoring his activities after a tip-off from Israel that he was planning to bomb Radio Free Europe, a station financed by the CIA that broadcasts to Iraq and Iran. Baghdad regards the broadcasts as "an act of aggression".

During the surveillance, they photographed Al-Ani with Mohammed Atta, the al Qaeda agent believed to have flown the first plane into the World Trade Centre.

And here is another one:

ISRAEL DOES NOT SEE IRAQI INVOLVEMENT IN WTC

JERUSALEM [MENL] -- Israel has not confirmed reports of Iraqi involvement in either the Sept. 11 suicide attacks on New York and Washington or in the anthrax outbreak in the United States.

Israeli military intelligence has determined that there is insufficient evidence to link Baghdad to either attack in the United States. The determination is in contrast to reports from Israeli sources of direct involvement by the regime of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in the recent terrorist outrages.

"For the time being, we can't say that Iraq was directly responsible for Sept. 11," a senior Israeli intelligence officer said. "The anthrax attacks raise questions of who could have produced such a product. It must have been somebody with advanced infrastructure. But it doesn't mean Iraq."

In Washington, the ABC television network reported that two laboratories have concluded that anthrax found in the outbreak in the United States was coated with additives linked to Iraq's biological weapons program. The network said traces of bentonite and silica were used to keep the anthrax particles from sticking to each other and more easily inhaled. Iraq is known to be the only country to use bentonite in the production of biological weapons.

On late Monday, the United States has issued an alert of a new terrorist attack either in the country or overseas. It was the second alert this month.

"The administration has concluded, based on information developed that there may be additional terrorist attacks within the United States and against United States interests over the next week," Attorney General John Ashcroft said.

It was not clear how much of the assessment represents Israeli intelligence information or diplomatic considerations. Soon after the Sept. 11 attacks, Israeli intelligence commanders informed the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon that Iraq appears to have been involved in the suicide crashes that destroyed the World Trade Center and part of the Pentagon.

But within days, Israeli officials played down Saddam's involvement in an effort to avoid being an Iraqi target. In 1991, Iraq fired 42 ballistic missiles toward Israel.

Still, U.S. officials appeared to agree with the Israeli assessment. They said recent tests of the anthrax bacteria did not find the bentonite compound found in Iraq. The Israeli intelligence officer said Iraq feels the pressure of the United States and its allies and believes that it will be the next target of Washington.

On Tuesday, however, Arab League chief Amr Mussa told the London-based Al Hayat daily that Iraq is not a U.S. target in the war against terrorism. Mussa returned last week from talks with Bush administration officials.
