Not quite. If it were not for the oil, the Israelis would have launched nuclear attacks on the Arabs in 1973 after the Arab surprise attack in the Yom Kippur War. Who knows what would have happened after that. The US didn't want that to happen. That's the reason we support Israel - to prevent them from nuking the oil fields.
