Well, you can get a permit. This means that you must become a member of a sports shooting club. After a year you may own a gun. You cannot carry it unless it is in a bag and not within (visible) range (there are special permits for consealed carrying). After a few years you may own up to a maximum of 6 guns/rifles. At home you MUST place it in a locked vault and you may not own bullets of a different caliber. Also police can check your home to see you don't violate the permit.
A nice story here: a few years ago there was a newsstory that drug dealers (they pay tax for selling drugs here you know) could subtract the costs of their illigally owned gun from their taxes!
