Have we learned from 9/11 (Do we now realize that bombing Serbia was a mistake)
Me

Posted on 11/29/2001, 6:38:07 PM by Michael2001

A few years ago under the Clinton administration, this country made IMHO one of the stupidest mistakes in its' history. We bombed a soveirgn Christian nation in Serbia, whose only crime was defending itself from militant Muslim extremists.

These same Muslim extremists later slaughtered many innocent Serbs (after we significantly weakened the Serbian army) while we did nothing to these Muslims aggressors. It has not been confirmed, but these same Bosnian Muslims who we protected have been linked to what happened in this country in 9/11.

Why did we do it? Did we really believe that we were doing the noble thing? Did we really believe that we were doing what was best for our country?- For humanity?

If I remember correctly, during the bombing polls showed that the majority of Americans supported our attacks. I wonder if now, after 9/11, the majority of Americans would admit that we made a grave mistake?

My one hope is that 9/11 showed us that we were severely mistaken in our actions in Serbia, and we never do anything like that again. I also believe that we owe these good people an apology, I hope we give them one.

I don't see the connection. Those Balkan people have been brawling for centuries.

I always believed that the bombing of Serbia was a war crime by the U.S., and a terrible policy error.

Yes and one of those sides are good people who share our values. The other side is full of people who hate us and may very well be connected to the events of 9/11

Most of us on Free Republic at the time were opposed to the operation. The same 66 percent who wanted to keep Clinton wanted the war. The NWO media really does have power.

Yugoslavia was in civil war and they were not threatening their neighbors.

It was ridiculous to attack the Serbs while all-along claiming to be "neutral". We should not have used NATO troops because a NATO country was not attacked. NATO should never have asked the UN for permission to attack because it sets a bad precedence. The US should not have attack Yugoslavia because Yugoslavia was not a threat.

Nevertheless, I don't believe this has anything to do with 9-11.

All the more reason for us to have stayed out of it.

I have seen no connection between the Croatians/Bosnians and the Taliban. Nor have I seen any evidence that the Slavs/Serbians were innocent in the whole war over there. It was an all out brawl that every side has used for their own propaganda.

It would not shock me to see someone use 9/11 to justify their support for one side or the other. But I doubt there is a connection although a good conspiracy theorist could probably weave one.

The connection is simple. Although I don't like socialists, which Milosevich is, he was fighting Islamic terrorism.

Excuse Me? The issues related to Bosnia/Serbia were not about dealing with Muslim extremists.

The actions tied to BH/Serbia were about ethnic cleansing between all forces, Croat, Serb, Bosnian, Kosovars, and on and on.

That action, though there were religious overtones, was not strictly religion motivated as with our response and actions.

The current actions our forces are involved in are as well not rooted in religion, but terrorist fanaticism.

The religion of Islam is not the target now, as Christianity was not the target during the Kosovar/Serbia campaign.

Shortsightedness such as you are exhibiting is dangerous, don't forget the reason for this action it is TERRORISM not who is a Christian or who is a Muslim.

I always thought our aggression in Serbia was wrong. We leveled the homeland of the people we supposedly went to help. It was just another attempt to cover up Clinton's crimes, and the people of the Balkans paid the price. Are they better off today?

One of the soldiers who returned from that "war" said he never understood why he was there, couldn't figure out what the Serbs had ever done to us that we would attack them. When the 9/11 terrorits struck, he did wonder if it might have been some Serbs, then could not recall anyone going on suicide missions except the Japanese and the Muslims.

He's claiming it was the Muslims. You are saying it was more than that.

Why did we fight the Confederacy? Add that to heroin trafficking KLA terrorits and you get a damn good reason to root out hostility to Serbia, within your own country. The Serbians are the ones still terrorized in Kosovo, murdered, raped, etc.

That baddy, Milosevic, was engaged in a counter-terror, counter-insurgency campaign!

There has never been a counter-terror, counter-insurgency campaign, anywhere in this world, that did not kill civilians. [The 19 that flew those jets into the twin towers were disguised as CIVILIANS, weren't they?
