Sorry, Mercy, our Jersey paper had 2 stories today about police corruption. One, an officer won a lawsuit alleging that he had been assaulted, harassed and threatened after questioning possible corruption (officers engaging in a business on the side, possibly shady). In another town, officers keeping false logs.
Recent other scandals: in the township surrounding my village several years of political back-stabbing, officers working more than full-time in off-duty business. Another town, officers protecting a really scummy informant and filing charges of perjury against a stripper in his club who charged him with running prostitutes. Can't think of any murders lately. We did have an officer committing bank robberies a few years back. Ahh, yankee rectitude

I guess mercy has forgotten all about Serpico. A quick review of Chicago history would illustrate the falsity of her belief. Wisconsin or Minnesota might fit her model but few other places certainly not New York or Chicago.

At least you don't engage in absurd generalities.

He's not a perfect man, Connie, but he's been married for 37 years, shouldn't we just move on?

Dorsey was under investigation for allegedly using on-duty deputies to work for his private security company and for letting jail inmates work in a home repair program run by his wife. That's pretty bad, but cold-blooded murder makes me think this guy probably had a piece fo the drug trade he was protecting also. Free labor doesn't seem sufficient motive.

I had no idea that Chicago was south of the Mason-Dixon line. Well, live and learn. :)
