THE REAL STORY OF FLIGHT 93
Newsweek ^ | December 3, 2001 issue of Newsweek

Edited on 09/03/2002 4:49:35 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

The terrorists had years to plan their hijacking. The passengers had just minutes to respond. But a band of patriots came together to defy death and save a symbol of freedom. What happened on that flight--and inside the cockpit?

In the first few days after September 11, Lisa Beamer could not sleep for more than an hour. Then she would wake up and cry. She worried about the boys, David, 3, and Drew, 19 months, and the new baby due in January. David wanted to know why, if their father loved them so much, he had gone to be with Jesus.

By their brave actions the Flight 93 passengers made that kind of takeover highly unlikely in the future.

However, over on DU, many still believe that the US government brought the plane down for nefarious conspiratorial reasons. Lots of foil hat conspiracies abound.

They 0ught to make the spot in Penn. a national monument.

A tribute to the spirit in all Americans that rises up when needed.

Not only do we need to raise a beautiful monument to these heroes at the crash site, I also propose that the site be taken over by the National Park Service and designated a national BATTLEFIELD. It, too, is hallowed ground.

When given information, "free men" will rise up to defend freedom. No draft needed.

You gotta stop every paragraph or two and take a break, that's how I get through it.

I'm not going to be sad anymore when I read that story. I'm going to be proud of them.

after reading this i cant feel anything but awe..ive heard it said the wernt even afraid this article makes it more realistic and more heart wrenching those guys were the first american casualty of the war...same with the lost of FDNY and NYPD but in any case they said it pretty much like this "if your gonna kill me im gonna fight you first"

this war may be far from over but in the end we'll be on top because freedom will reign!

I have to apologize.

When I first heard that the terrorists took over the planes armed only with knives and razor blades I said something like (and posted on FreeRep) “where are all the men in this country? Can you imagine a group of WWII vets being herded around and slaughtered?” I was pretty hard on the passengers, and my fellow Americans in general.

I’m sorry for that. Maybe we (Americans) get sidetracked occasionally, but I’m damn proud, and humbled, to live in the presence of these fine citizens and grateful for the example they, and so many more like them, set on a daily basis.

“Lets Roll”

The heroes and heroines of Flight 93 should be Time's Men and Women of the Year. Let's Roll!

What an amazing story, and beautifully told.

How is it possible that this is in Newsweak? I think I'm actually going to have to buy this one. Knock me over with a feather.

It's the "real" Story.

I liked your point last night on entrusting weapons of self-defense to the selfsame pilots to whom we entrust our lives as a matter of course when boarding a plane in the first place.

A chilling, beautiful story of REAL HEROES. You can't get through it dry-eyed.

It's the only one I have the stomach, and tears, for.

Then you would have loved the last show. One of the Boneheaded quotes was Matt Lauer (gag!) asking if we should trust pilots with guns, "They're human. They get depressed..." This is after, of course, gun-free planes were used to kill thousands... And this twit gets paid to speak.

Thanks for listening! I hope we entertained you!
