Amazing that the Palestinians don't realize that such terrorism is now, at the least, ill-timed. The U.S. is probably going to assert military power over more or less the whole Middle East over the next few months. The U.S. government has just expressed its determination to establish a Palestinian state. If these Palestinians would just sit tight, they would probably get their state in short order.

But, by mounting such attacks right now, they are calling all of that into question.

Which I believe is one of the things that GW et al are trying to underscore. Even with a Palestinian homeland, there are many, perhaps most Palestinians who do not want Israel to exist in any form. Fatah is making that point quite well, which in turn usurps auhtority from Arafat and delegitimizes the Palestinian homeland cause.

So true, and so tragic if you think about it.

A wiser man than I said it...the Palestinians never miss a chance to miss an opportunity.

They don't want a state. They want it ALL. They want Israel gone. That's why the bombing always gets worse the closer they get to an agreement. Islam is on the move, and its goal is clear. First, a unified Middle East. Second, the Middle East as a world power. Third, the Middle East as THE world power...

We don't know which group did this. Hopefully we will find out. If it is Arafat's organization, he has clearly gone nuts. I'm sure he will deny that he engineered this and decry it. It may be Osama's folks or an anti-Arafat group, which would make sense since it threatens his regime.

The U.S. government has just expressed its determination to establish a Palestinian state. If these Palestinians would just sit tight, they would probably get their state in short order.

But, by mounting such attacks right now, they are calling all of that into question.

When are we all going to get it? You are wondering why such inconsistency? He does not want a Palestinian state in addition to Israel --- he wants it instead of Israel. Does this not explain why he walked away last year when a state was offered to him? Does this not explain what is happenning today?

More importantly, when are we going to start taking these people seriously? They have been burning our flags and screaming "Down with America" for several decades now. Have you seen the baracks in Lebanon go down? Have you seen the towers in Saudi Arabia with our soldiers in them go down? Now that the WTC went down we said: "Oh, I see. I guess that's what `down' ment."

Arafat, his appointed sheiks, and other cronies constantly talk (in Arabic) about the Palestinian state from Jordan to Mediterranian. Recently, they went further and started to talk about califate with the centre in Jerusalem. Consult the invaluable MEMRI site that translates from Arabic.

When are we going to take these people seriously? When they say about pushing all Jews into the sea, they mean it. When they lament that Hitler has not finished the job, they mean it.

But we are still asking why such inconsistencies in Arafat's behaviour. Time after time, the educated, cultured West makes a mistake of dismissing evil if it comes in an ostensibly unsophisticated form. The Germans -- epitamy of culture at the turn of last century dismissed Hitler's vitriol --- why, but he is such a simpleton, even slightly mad, purhaps. Shortly thereafter, the German intelligencia was escorted to the concentration camps together with the Jews and Gypsies.

Regal Roosevelt, who addressed the King of England by his first name, looked down on Stalin --- a crude brut. Well, that uncultured brut from the wilds of Russia dropped the Iron Curtain, and we paid for it dearly over the span of 40 years.

To this day it is neither widely known nor fully unerstood by those who have heard this fact, but the major strategist of Stalin, Zchukov (spelling?), at the end of WWII offered him to overrun American armies so that all of Europe would "finally" be communist. The communists really meant it when they said they wanted the world.

And today, Arafat is screaming at the top of his lungs, "I want it all! Drown the infidel in the Mediterranian! Califate with the center in Jerusalem!" But we dismiss him: he looks soooo simplistic; just look at his nonthreatening idiotic smile; look how he "constantly shoots himself in the foot."

I guess, this is what is going to happen. Palestinian Arabs will be given a state, which they will promise to keep demilitarized. Then we are going to discover some military equipment imported from Iraq, say, or Iran. And, after Israel is attacked one more time --- with chemical and bioligical weapons, we'll say: "Oh, I see. This is what they ment by `death to all Jews.' They really ment it."

Israel is about 50 times smaller than the U.S. The 130 wounded in Israel would translate, in human terms, into 6,500 here in the U.S. What would we do if such attack happened here?
