Patrick Leahy is the five term Democrat Senator from Vermont, a state that has a less than stellar record in the quality of people it sends to DC.
Leahy is a detestable, bullying, left wing brute whose intemperate actions have led to the death of at least one intelligence operative.
He is an enemy of the United States and the fact that he is allowed to serve in the Senate, rather than Leavenworth, is merely another indication of how far that body has fallen.
His record has been, without doubt, one of the most incredibly damaging in the history of the United States Senate.
"Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, inadvertently disclosed a top secret communications intercept during a 1985 television interview. The intercept, apparently of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's telephone conversations, made possible the capture of the Arab terrorists who had hijacked the cruise ship Achille Lauro and murdered American citizens," the paper said, adding, "The reports cost the life of at least one Egyptian operative involved in the operation." - San Diego Union-Tribune, 1987.
Leahy might as well have personally assassinated the intelligence operative - his remarks were not inadvertent; they stem from his desire to hobble the vital intelligence concerns that have finally smacked America out of its Clintonian reverie.
In 1987 Leahy was removed, repeat r-e-m-o-v-e-d, he did not resign - from the Senate Intelligence Committee, after a six-month internal investigation of his leaking of confidential committee information.
The internal audit revealed that Leahy deliberately made available extremely sensitive intelligence information to an NBC reporter (with the hope of damaging Ronald Reagan) actually allowing the reporter unfettered access to a secret draft report on the so-called Iran-Contra affair.
Leahy also served as the chief hit man in the attempted judicial lynching of Clarence Thomas, the character assassination of Robert Bork and the anti-Christian jihad against John Ashcroft.
He was also behind the efforts to kill the nomination of Theodore Olson as Solicitor General, claiming he was not of sufficient stature for the position.
The fact that Olson was crafty enough to have demolished both Larry Tribe and David Boies in the Supreme Court arguments surrounding Albert Gore's attempt to hijack the 2000 election, should have been due testament to his legal prowess.
Of course Leahy could have simply asked Olson's wife, Barbara, about his character and bona fides but unfortunately she was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks that he and his cohorts in large part precipitated.
The Senator from Vermont's continued aggressive challenging of all Bush Senate nominees is a far cry from the position that he took on the McNeil-Lehrer News hour - November 7, 1997 - but then what is mere consistency to a man with such an abominable track record.
"The President of the United States won the election. I'm afraid that some of my friends on the Judiciary Committee haven't gotten over the fact that not only did Bill Clinton win once; he won twice, and he is entitled to have people who support his position."
Leahy also has been at the forefront of the Marxist dominated effort to bar the United States from using land mines to defend troops around the world - a situation that would particularly and negatively affect such high visibility deployments as those in Afghanistan and South Korea.
"People who talk about 'smart' landmines should ask themselves if a smart landmine can distinguish between an innocent child and a soldier? I call on all US manufacturers to get out of the business."
In July 1987, the Washington Times reported that Leahy leaked secret information about a 1986 covert operation planned by the Reagan administration to topple Libyan strongman Moammar Gaddhafi.
"I thought [the operation] was probably the most ridiculous thing I had seen, and also the most irresponsible"
Not content to merely conduct a traitorous, clandestine war against American security, Leahy has also been busy making war on the First Amendment, recently sending a threatening official letter to Robert Tyrrell, the publisher of The American Spectator.
This letter which demanded among other things "copies of the internal audit, board books and minutes ... and all notes and records of Board discussions of the [editors note: Clinton ordered IRS] audit." Leahy further warned Tyrrell that "should that request be denied, the committee as a whole should take appropriate action to obtain the documents."
A Democrat assaulting free speech?
How unusual.
Earlier this year Mr. Leahy removed the "so help you God" portion of the oath ("Do you swear or affirm that the testimony you are about to give will be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?") that is required when testifying before Senate committees - an act which really needs no further comment.
Over the next few weeks Leahy will be seeking to further the behind the scenes bloodletting and partisan animus that the Democrat party perfected under the impeached and thoroughly discredited William Jefferson Clinton, taking aim - once again - at John Ashcroft.
Conclusion?
Leahy is evil, dangerous and must be resisted.

Don't miss PhiKapMom's thread:
NO JUSTICES -- NO PEACE! -- STOP DemocRAT OBSTRUCTIONISTS!!!
Republicans have spies on the hill monitoring (best they can) how many calls, emails and letters Leahy's staff is getting.
Too bad he doesn't write for a major.
What is Ether Zone all about?

Ping!
I feel really terrible about leaving you out of the lineup. Red Island certainly deserves the recognition along with the rest.
I just did.
I understand perfectly now.
