** Iraq officially threatens Israel if U.S. attacks **

NICOSIA — For the first time, Iraq has specifically threatened Israel with retaliation for any U.S.-led campaign against the regime of President Saddam Hussein.

A senior Iraqi diplomat said Saddam has seven million combatants called the Quds Army. The diplomat said Iraq would "swallow Israel up" if his country is attacked.

"The Palestinian cause and liberation of Jerusalem as well as campaign against Israel is a fundamental issue for Iraq, just like many other Islamic states," Iraqi charge d'affaires in Teheran Abdul Sattar Izzeddin Rawi said. The warning came hours after Iraqi President Saddam Hussein convened his defense chiefs on late Sunday. The Iraqi News Agency said the meeting focused on Iraqi preparations for any U.S.-led war against Baghdad.

Last week, Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri suggested that Iraq would target Israel. But Sabri did not mention Israel by name. On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz said Iraq is prepared for a ground war should the United States attack but did not threaten Israel.

At the same time, Rawi told the official Iranian news agency IRNA that Saddam has sent three messages to the United States and its European allies. The messages warned against any attack on Baghdad.

The diplomat said Kurds in northern Iraq would suffer greatly if they cooperate in any U.S.-led effort to topple Saddam. For a decade, the Kurds have maintained self-rule in the north.

Rawi warned that the United States would not achieve anything in an attack on Iraq. He reiterated Iraq's refusal to allow the return of United Nations weapons inspectors in his country.

Even though our leaders say it is not ... it is more a civilization vs. Islam ... or Islam vs all other religions or both

Whoa! Big surprise! Like Iraq wouldn't attack Israel anyway.

"Last week, Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri suggested that Iraq would target Israel."

This, along with Egypt purchasing and receiving 20 updated/modern ICBM's - tells all of us that an all-out war is right around the cornor. (Iraq - will be buried in rubble...along with all other countries who promote/harbor terrorist)

Isn't this the exact same rhetoric Iraq used during the Desert Shield buildup of 1990? And what happened? A few lazy scuds that didn't do much of anything. And that mighty "elite Republican Guard," remember them? The ones who used their underwear as surrender flags?

Well at least he is honest, unlike all others, including the U.S., who pretend that peace with Israel is the goal. Iraq is no different than the other Arab states, all talk and bluster unless they are attacking innocent women and children. We used to call people like that bullies and cowards, now we call them Islamists.

More like the Duds, than the Quds.

Again I ask....Why do these cowards feel that an attack on Israel would be a good counter-attack for an attack from America. Do they have no balls at all? Won't they for once at least try to prove to the world that they will stand up to the USA. I mean how silly do they look ALL the time.

Well, it wouldn't happen if we'd just eliminate them to begin with...

Interesting how the Russians would not mind the destruction of Israel, supporting Saddam.

Gee, whatever happened to the "Elite Republican Guard?" It raises the serious question whether Israel would have sufficent facilities for processing that many POWs.

If Iraq starts amassing troops anywhere near Jordan....I have no doubt, Israel will go nuclear.

They can't allow them to get much closer than that....
