I suspect the "missing" footage will be added to the DVD so no fear viewing the movie will be an incomplete experience. In the theater there are time constraints and obviously the audience can sit only so long. The home viewing experience will be on a much more leisurely and intimate scale and I'm sure people are already looking forward to the DVD Director's Cut Edition.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I loved the movie. I knew there wouldn't be a discernable ending, there was no way to and be true to the books.

My wife went through the same thing I went through the first time I read the book. I remember getting near the end of the book and thinking, "they better get busy, they have so much to do and only 40 pages left". I didn't realize that this a very much a "to be continued" type of story at the time.

I just wished I had warned my wife a little, and she would have had a much better experience. She still liked it, but the lack of ending really bothered her.
