The old Catholic Encyclopedia has a great entry under
sacrifice. It covers the broad history of various forms of religious sacrifice which includes almost all of human history. Very long but very worthwhile read.
Thanks, AF, I'm gonna wade on through it, they usually do a great job of research/compilation. I was recently curious on the subject after reading Ken Wilber's "Brief History of Everything." It has an interesting trend-theory concerning the means of production, the role of man/woman, godess religions and human sacrifices.
