I had hope for the "Contract with America". That was apparently the last gasp of true limited government fervor among mainstream Republicans, and what did it do? Nothing of consequence.

I did too, Joe. But I remember when Newt lied to Rush Limbaugh two days in a row. After the first time Newt came back on Rush's show and explained why he had changed why he changed what he had said the day before. Rush believed him but then Newt did it again the next day.

Rush has said that the next Monday was the worst in his radio career. He said he almost quit in the middle of the show. He allowed all calls and was heart sick about Mr. Newt.

Then Traficant lied about the impeachment vote. Traficant said he would vote for Clinton's impeachment, then voted not guilty on all four of the articles.

************************

I remember, carenot.

It took Rush months to recover his form after that betrayal by Newt.
