From a lily white Northerner (grin), I think your graphic says it all.

Another hijacking of a legitimate movement by those who have no compunction in doing so for their own personal gain.

In another words, a so called liberal.

Most people of any stripe respect a true leader......think Jesse Peterson.

"There's a ton more to this, but you have the Cliff's Notes version, and it should give you an accurate, although abbreviated version of my switch."

Whoa -- whatta great story! Welcome home!

May God continue to bless you and your family.

Hope you'll continue to be outspoken, as well:-)

For instance, let's look at Colin Powell, the most popular black Republican among black people today. When he was being considered as a Republican presidential candidate you could hear the waves of conservative fury.

I can't speak for the others, but my gripe with him is his "pro-choice" stance. The same gripe I have with any other RINO.

"From that moment on, listening to Jesse Jackson, Kweisi Mfume, Tavis Smiley, Al Sharpton, and Maxine Waters was not the same. Their words rang hollow"

And that in a nutshell my friend is what makes you and others like you dangerous to the "cause" of the liberals. When y'all start thinking for yourselves you become a threat because you more than any others can cast a light on what they're really about. They have no desire to solve the racial problem or any other problem for that matter. Their agenda hinges on voter ignorance, particularly ignorance in minority communities. I would suggest that this is the reason they push so hard to keep public schools intact and at the status quo as well as the explanation as to why they keep pushing for bilingual programs, regardless of how ineffective they have proven to be. Let's face it, somebody who can't speak the language doesn't present too much of a challenge to their leaders' superior intellect. Bingo. Instant voter block.

I appreciate your sharing and I admire you for being able to see through all the lies and vanity and reach your own conclusions and stand by them. That is quite an accomplishment in this new age of manufactured racism.

Only by demonstrating a committment to work within and on behalf of the black community instead of as token mouthpieces of it's perceived enemies,

LOL... so in other words... they are only effective if they focus SOLELY on black issues. LOL!

Sorry, Leftist racism is NOT what conservative blacks need!

You seem to forget that the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed by Republicans... the Democrats were sharply split in their votes.

It was passed by the Northeast Midwest Republicans of the Jacob Javits, Rockefeller, etc variety, none of whom would be considered conservatives now. It was opposed by southern dixiecrats who all went on to become Republicans.

"And as for the self-hatred part, I can imagine no better example than the aforequoted JJ Johnson."

You obviously mistake being embarassed by your own people as self-hatred. The liberal black racists make utter fools of blacks. J.J. Johnson's only crime is in seeing it and in seeing them for what they are...a bunch of power hungry, race baiting hatemongers that run counter to the well-being of American society and especially to the very people in whose name and for whose benefit they profess to speak.

How come blacks didn't support Alan Keyes? He isn't self-hating.

It was opposed by southern dixiecrats who all went on to become Republicans.

LOL, can we have the names, please? I don't recall a massive exodus of Democrats to the GOP during that decade. I think you mean that the southern regions started electing Republican representatives once they saw that the Democrats simply wanted to keep them on the plantation, and that Republicans still actually believed in personal FReedom rather than government-enforced Social obligation. Or is that yet another 'coincidence' that you'll explain away as if it were meaningless?

(Keep chanting the mantra: All Dem victories are earned... all GOP victories are actually inspired by Liberal ideology... all Lefty defeats are the fault of racists and haters... all conservative defeats are victories for the Social(ist) good.)

Alan Keyes is kinda one note. And as I have noted before a shared social conservatism is insufficient to overcome intense black distrust of conservative racial attitudes. Blacks who supported Clarence Thomas feel tricked and used and will not repeat that mistake.

Furthermore, few have forgotten Keyes outspoken opposition to South African sanctions (another red button bone of contention between blacks and conservatives. South Africa.) which most blacks ascribed to currying favor with white conservatives.

Frankly, JJ Johnson talks like a white person furious about being trapped inside black skin, who has chosen conservatism because he is embarassed at being lumped in with "those people". This is a widespread perception of black republicans in the black community, that many are draw to conservatism not despite it's lack of black support but precisely because of it (if you want no part of us why should we want any part of you ?). And it is something that black conservatives like Armstrong Williams and JC Watts, not content with being tokens of the Clarence Pendleton variety, have worked during the 90's to combat.

You kinda illustrate the point I made earlier about blacks suspecting that most black republicans are about putting as much distance as possible between themselves and "those people". Their conservatism can best be seen as a kind of neurotic "identification with the aggressor" like the self-hating Jew or the wartime colloborator or the Uncle Tom in the slave quarters by blacks who have absolutely no respect whatsoever for their community.
