Unfortunately, "tolerance" is never allowed for religious viewpoints, unless one is a muslim.
That's quite a different matter from deliberately insulting the Pope. This article is a real stretch, typical of the liberal media springing to the defense of blasphemous and offensive art. It's like when that fellow painted the Virgin Mary covered with elephant dung, and the media instantly started claiming that elephant dung was "holy" in certain Indian traditions. Nonsense. The painting was clearly a deliberate insult to the Virgin Mary, to all Christians, and to Catholics in particular.
COPIA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit institution dedicated to exploring the distinctively American contribution to the character of wine and food in close association with the arts and humanities, and to celebrating these as a unique expression of the vitality of American life, culture and heritage. The museum, which opened November 18, 2001 (the same day Active Ingredients opened), is the brain-child of noted vintner Robert Mondavi; he made a donation of $20 million to launch the Raising the Dough campaign. The state of California contributed $70 million and another $4 million came from local tax money. Active Ingredients runs through April 22.
Catholic American taxpayers, particularly those in California, have a right to object to their money being spent on garbage like this.
I urge all my fellow Freepers to do one simple thing: Print a copy of this article, along with the documentation from the original thread... and give it to just one grocery/liquor store that sells Mondavi wines. Ask for the managers reaction... (The local store where I shop...the manager is going to speak to the "wine merchant" when he comes in to restock.)
It may do no good! But so what! It get's the word out and even little ripples help!
Thank you and a Blessed New Years to you all!
