Jeff,

I have to admit that I am not one who believes that petitions have a whole lot of effect. A petition of grievance is only as effective as the willingness of the receiver to 'hear,' and reflect upon, its content. No matter the number of people who have affixed their John Hancock, when you are presenting a petition to a group that believes it knows what's best for the rest of us (not to mention a group that believes that one holier-than-thou leftist is of intrinsically more value than a million of us ordinary peons, simply by virtue of the fact that he has a [perverted] vision of what should be) they tend to respond with a 'you don't really know what you are talking about, no matter how many of you signed this crummy piece of paper' snear.

With that said, the response to this petition has been beyond belief. And it has struck a chord not only with conservatives/patriots, but with those who would have defended the 'right' to burn the very flag that is depicted in this statue....pre 9/11. People (even those on the left of the political spectrum) are (at least in the near-term wake of 9/11) fed up with revisionism.

Let's hope the petition accomplishes more than this, but it has already served the purpose of opening our, and their, eyes to the fact that a large segment of the formerly apathetic (those who didn't bat an eye when modern historians decided that Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe ought to replace Robert E. Lee and Clara Barton in our children's history books) is awakening. It seems to me that the catalyst for this awakening has been the fact that the 'history' that is being rewritten now is 'history' through which we all suffered (agonizingly, and personally). When you are an actual participant in/witness to history, you want the real truth to be known.

It's one thing for the agenda-driven liars modern historians to distort and degrade events which occurred, and people who lived, more than two centuries ago. It's going to be a whole other ballgame if the left-wing powers that be continue to try to tell us that our own eyes and ears deceived us four months ago. We know better. :)

57,000+ at this moment.

Congratulations, Jeff. As always, proud to call you friend.

While I hope and believe that this issue will not stand, either in its originally conceived form or in any other politically correct form, that i sonly one of the good things coming of this effort. Many eyes are being opened here ... may they never take opportunity to close or slumber.

In addition, perhaps people will link the recognition they are experiencing to the world around them, the one they are living in and many of the "revisions" and "conceptions" that have been foisted upon them in the name of these same agendas by these same people. For example, the misconception that we live in a nation that is a democracy instead of the Republic she was designed to be and yet is, despite the hellacious efforts of enemies and revisionists.

Any effort that leans or leads towards those goals is a good one and a successful one.

If you haven;t seen it already, ready the comments on the petition from signator 11497.

One must take great heart in the news that the nationwide response, not only to Jeff's petition but on call in shows, radio opinion polls, letters to the editor, etc. has apparently put an end to thiis revisionist nonsense. Once begun, such duplicitous manipulations would invariably lead us down the road of fascism in blatant betrayal of what has been called the "greatest generation"
