THe point is to make it possible for the government to use some guise to arbitrarily take any and every citizen's right to firearms and self defense.

Thanks. Glad you find it as useful as I.

With politicians, it's like being a helpless school kid... every day you get bullied to hand over your lunch money.

I may disagree with you on whether or not violent felons should have guns but trust me....I'm hardly naive about anything. I would dare say my life's experiences which are not exactly suitable for a public forum match or exceed your own.

In a perfect world where all bad guys are put away forever...you would be right. IMHO, that is not the world we inhabit.

It's funny really...I'm very very right wing on gun rights but not absolutist with regards to convicted predators so I'm therefore deemed naive.

Thou doth flame a wee bit much sir

This question was not meant as a personal attack:
"Are you really so naive to think violent criminals obey gun control laws when they want to rob and murder?"

--------

Let us rephrase it, so you can answer it, and you can have no excuse to not answer it:

Do you really believe that violent criminals obey gun control law?

Yes indeed, but with government, the bully will use your money it steals from you and the rights it usurps from you to kill you!

If a man doesn't deserve a weapon he should still bein jail or dead or in a nut house.

Generally true, I'd agree, though I can think of exceptions, temporary and permanent. Certainly such creatures should also not be allowed to vote, or hold public office, nor be trusted in other ways.

And if such a man is free an wants to rob or murder he isn't going to obey a stupid Gun Control law anyway!

Well, he might at times, if he's about to commit a premeditated, well-planned crime, and then carry the evidence of his serious intent only when about to do his dirty deed. But most crimuinals are spur-of-the-moment crimes of opportunity that take place when a tempting target is more of a temptation than the perpetrator can resist.

Are you really so naive to think violent criminals obey gun control laws when they want to rob and murder?

Certainly not with enough consistancy to be comforting. But they will fake compliance for a while at times, unless they perceive that there's a threat to their own selves from others like them. And most would be quite content with a society without firearms, in which they could use edged or impact weapons instead, as are common in the prison societies with which many of our imprecisely skilled repeat offenders are quite familiar.

Unfortunately Eric, our laws and our penal system don't exactly weed out who's ok and who's not. You do the punishment ..you get out. Nobody gives a damn whether you are capable of being non violent or not regardless of your history.

I don't think folks who have committed serious violent crimes should own guns...especially if they have killed someone in a robbery or whatnot. Call me a left winger...ROTFLMAO

This is the only arena in which I believe there should be any prohibition of gun rights or registration or background checks etc.....so don't sling all the other crap my way. As for the slippery slope.....This aspect of criminal codes dates back to 1968 Federally and even further back State law wise.

If you are a Fed convict caught with a modern firearm you will recieve 5 years whether violent or not. I do not agree with that.

Really??????????......I state that I think only violent felons should lose their gun rights some 50 posts back and now I'm in favor of repealing the entire bill of rights. You're not a libertarian by any chance are you?

Actually I'm more worried about the LEOs coming for all our guns and no I don't think my position of whether or not serious violent felons should or should not have guns has a whole lot to do with the overall picture. The precise issue in question about violent felons is a fait accompli....let's move on to more current problems surrounding the second amendment and folks who deserve the help....I don't wish to expend my energy as you do defending the right for a bank robber who may have killed someone in his or her predatory occupation to own a gun. Good Grief!!!!!!!!!!

Explain how this is consitent with freedom.

Oh that's right, you don't bother explaining why our freedoms are NOT under assault.
