One of the earliest black "defectors" from the CPUSA was one Manning Johnson; who by the late 1920s realized what the CPUSA was, a slavish tool of Stalin and realized it could care less about black people or any other group, just so long as they were useful in furthering the Party's goals of total power and control. He wrote a book length expose (I forget the title) about his unpleasant experiences as a black man in the CPUSA and his disillusionment with Communism.
