New Zealander builds Hobbit hole

New Zealander builds Hobbit hole

A New Zealand man has built a Hobbit house.

Carl Gifford, a stonemason from Wellington, says he used a 10-tonne digger to make the hole.

He's put rocks either side of the front door and plans to install a chimney and lantern on top.

He told the Evening Post he was embarrassed as he was constructing the home.

He said: "I must admit I was hiding as the cars were driving past. I thought, 'These people think I'm an idiot'."

The house is part of a series of stonework mounds, designs and sculptures dotted around his land.

"I'm just having a bit of fun. Things that were built by those ancient people like caves have always fascinated me."

I agree, Elijah got overlooked. I'm not surprised though, given that the first critical reviews of the movie seem to have overlooked his performance as well. Oh well, maybe next year!

Personally, I think Billy Boyd should have been nominated for something! Then again, I'm partial to Pippin.

Contrary to everyone, I cherish hopes it will win Picture of the Year. Beautiful Mind probably will, because it features an insane and immoral person, and FOTR is too good&evil-ish for the Ho'wood sophisticates.

But it should win.

Maybe an ice bucket would be more helpful.....and you'd better aim some my way too, LOL...

...now just so no one gets the wrong idea....

I ADORE Frodo, I adore Elijah Wood as Frodo, and I adore the movie...

I just like to ruminate over details every once in awhile...just discussion, and it nearly always leads to a better understanding of what's taking place if I raise the issues...which it did in this case....

;)

And I think Elijah was robbed in the Oscar noms, but it wasn't a surprise--he's being overlooked like most stars in that type of movie role are overlooked. I think it's almost an insult these days to win an acting Oscar. Usually it just means the actor is really good at chewing scenery and hysterics. Ugh.

LOL! OK, if folks can sigh over Viggo, then I can bring up football. The problem with FOTR is the same problem that happened after my Patriots won the Super Bowl. Who do you pick as Most Valuable Player when the triumph rests on an ensemble cast? Too bad they couldn't just nominate the whole lot of them. Then again, I suppose that's what Best Picture is for! Maybe it WILL win...

Now you all talking about this is going to get me interested in watching...something I haven't done it years. I really didn't expect LOTR to get nominated for anything, considering that I think Hollywood wouldn't know good work if it bit them on the shin. Now they're nominated...it might be worth watching just to see our heros in the audience!

You know, now I'm tempted to watch....and I HATE watching the Oscars. But it would be fun to see the clips from the film and see some of the LOTR folks in the audience.

Stop bashing my Frodo

I'm not bashing Frodo and I think EW is a great Frodo. I was trying to explain why other Freepers might think that EW's Frodo was a wimp (because all his physical acts of bravery were edited out.)

What makes him courageous is he does it even though he is afraid.

One of the best depictions of bravery as being willing to do what you must even while scared to death since Audie Murphy in the movie of Stephen Crane's Red Badge of Courage.

Don't worry, Jedismom, I'll be watching the drivel too, in hopes of seeing some of our favorite actors win big! We can feel each other's pain.

Sorry to ask a very basic question, but what does "ITA" stand for? I have figured out most other abbreviations, but not that one. Thanks.
