IDF thwarts delivery of Kassam rockets from Nablus to JeninIDF troops on a special operation captured eight Kassam 2 rockets and launchers as Palestinians attempted to smuggle the rockets between the West Bank cities of Nablus and Jenin early Wednesday morning. The weapons were captured on a truck at an IDF roadblock between the two cities, at the village of Ein al Bida,, by a force composed of reserve soldiers. This is the first time the Kassam rockets have been discovered in the West Bank, having previously only been viewed in the Gaza Strip. After receiving intelligence information about the truck, the commander of a reserve tank unit, Major Segev Baram, a 40-year-old schoolteacher from Ramat Hasharon, erected a roadblock in the village of Ein al Bida, north east of Nablus. His company entered the village accompanied by a tank. The force took over the truck, arrested the driver and left the village with the company commander driving the truck. The Palestinian residents of the village surrounded the vehicle and tried to attack the company. The soldiers said that they left the village with hundreds of Palestinians throwing molotov cocktails at them. The soldiers fired warning shots at the crowd, and no injuries were reported. A senior General Staff officer told Ha'aretz that the Palestinians planned to fire the rockets at the northern city of Afula and the Jezreel Valley, within the next few days. "This incident shows that the Palestinians have not changed any of their intentions, despite the relative quiet of the last few days," said the officer. The IDF intends to use the incident in its public relations efforts, to demonstrate that despite renewal of talks, the Palestinians continue to try carrying out terror attacks. IDF commander in the West Bank, Brigadier General Jerry Yitzhak, said that the Hamas is making efforts to move the Kassam rockets to Palestinian towns near the Green Lin Border, in order to directly threaten Israeli towns. He said that the range of the Kassam rockets is between 10 and 15 kilometers. Its explosive charge weighs four to six kilograms, and the rockets were made in Nablus. The Fatah organization in the Gaza Strip aired a video film Tuesday on Heabollah Al Manar station in Lebanon, showing new rockets the organization has developed, called Al Aqsa 1 and Al Aqsa 2. The film shows Fatah military wing men wearing masks and launching two types of rockets. The rockets were said to be launched at the Netzer Hazani settlement in the Gaza Strip. Yassir AraRAT wrote an editorial for the New York Times just this past Sunday which said there would be no more terrorist incidents coordinated by the PLO.
Who'd a thunk it? AraRAT's a liar!
Lying Israeli scum.
Everybody knows that most "Palestinians" are peaceloving and innocent bystander victims of Israeli occupation and aggression.
And those Kassum rockets are not even real.
They are papier mache dummies to be used and burned at the next daily "Palestinian" peaceful protest.
Besides, you can't prove a thing. Where's the proof?
This is just another example of that.
Hate to tell them, but that won't work. The moon god lives down below.
Arafat's terrorist history goes back decades. Militant Islamic groups have flourished under his authority. But I can see how one would think they are peace loving.
I think I'm in love.

(IsraelNN.com) Security officials report the Kassim rockets apprehended by our forces in the Shechem area on Wednesday afternoon were 120mm rockets capable of inflicting serious damage on Jewish communities in the Shomron or municipalities inside Green Line Israel, such as Afula. The rockets carry a six kilogram warhead that officials explain could inflict serious consequences in major population centers. Authorities report that eight rockets and launchers were hidden in flour bags under produce, and they were probably intended to Hamas terrorists in PA-controlled Jenin. Intelligence community officials add that it is most likely that during recent months, terrorists have managed to smuggle the rockets into Kalkilya and Tul Karem. |
If the New York Times is not against the terrorists, then it is with the terrorists. Decide, Sulzberger Family.
Sounds like an admission that the PLO has organized terrorist activities in the past.
I agree. The Israeli troops just happened to be in the neighborhood during cocktail hour.
Israeli Bus Driver Thwarts Bomber
.c The Associated Press
JERUSALEM (AP) - A bus driver thwarted a potential Palestinian bomb attack when he alerted Israeli police to a suspicious passenger who had an explosives belt strapped to his body, police said Wednesday.
The bus was traveling from Jerusalem to the nearby Jewish West Bank settlement of Maale Adumim when the driver spotted the passenger. The driver stopped at an Israeli border police checkpoint at the outskirts of Jerusalem and informed officers there of his suspicions, said police spokesman Koby Zariyahu.
The man attacked a border policeman who questioned him, Zariyahu said, but was overpowered by others who discovered he was wearing an explosives belt. He was then arrested, and witnesses said the detainee was beaten by border policemen.
Explosives experts defused the bomb at the scene and searched the bus for additional explosives.
The Israeli government commended the bus driver for his alertness. ``The fact that carnage was avoided does not mean that we do not view the event with the utmost gravity,'' said Emmanuel Nahshon, a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
Police spokesman Gil Kleiman said the bomber was a Palestinian and was being interrogated. He gave no further details.
Israel Harush, who lives in Maale Adumim, told Israel Radio that he was in a car near the roadblock when he saw soldiers struggling with a man on the bus, and he ran to help. ``I grabbed his arm and said, 'give me the handcuffs,' and slapped the first one on his wrist,'' he said.
Speaking from the roadblock, he said he was still overwhelmed by the scope of the incident. ``Now I see that I helped save a whole bus, and I can say I did something with my life,'' he said. Deputy Jerusalem police commander Ilan Franco said the bus was full.
Islamic militants have carried out scores of bombing attacks on Israelis since the start of Israeli-Palestinian fighting 16 months ago.

Gun battle at Jewish settlement, Israeli army says
JERUSALEM, Feb 6 (Reuters) - A Palestinian gunman opened fire at the gates of a Jewish settlement in the West Bank on Wednesday and infiltrated it, wounding three people and setting off a gun battle with Israeli soldiers, the Israeli army said.
The gunman shot at a security guard at the entrance to the Hamra settlement in the northeastern West Bank, Israeli television reported.
Leah Shlomo, a settler from Hamra, told Israel Radio residents had been ordered to lock themselves into their homes while soldiers hunted for the gunman and possible accomplices.
"There are a lot of shots, a huge number of gunshots in the background," Shlomo told the radio by telephone from her house.
"He is in the settlement."
Palestinian gunmen killed two Israelis in a raid on the Alei Sinai Jewish settlement last October in the bloodiest infiltration of a settlement since an uprising against occupation erupted in September 2000 after peace talks froze.
Palestinians say Jewish settlers are legitimate targets in their uprising because they are occupying West Bank and Gaza Strip land which Palestinians want for a future state.

(22:00) France increases aid to Palestinians
By The Associated Press
PARIS - France will provide 7.1 million euros in aid to the Palestinian people this year, a 10 percent increase from a year ago, the French Foreign Ministry said today.
The announcement followed a meeting in Paris between Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine and top Palestinian negotiator Nabil Shaath, who said the move "justly gives me a greater feeling that France remains a supporter of the Palestinian people and the peace process."
The funds are to be used to promote education, provide assistance to Palestinian refugees, help people wounded in the continuing violence, as well as build state institutions, notably the creation of a foreign ministry, the French ministry said in a statement.
