"The president does everything fast, including eating dinner," said Ari Fleischer, the White House press secretary. "He's not a lingerer."

And the First Lady sighed, wistfully.

Bill Clinton, who was up until the small hours of the morning making calls and playing cards.

NYT Translation: Clinton was calling 900-numbers and playing strip poker.

She said she could not remember what she described as "a very big dessert," because she does not eat dessert. But the president does. "He'll eat your dessert, too, if you let him," she said.

Afterward, Mr. Bush asked the members if anyone would like to run with him. The president, who is now averaging a 6:50 mile during his three-mile runs through the Camp David woods, got no takers. "Everybody started looking at their feet," Mr. Fleischer said.

I just love President Bush! He is just so down to earth. I enjoy these insights into what he is really like.

And the First Lady sighed, wistfully.

Oh, I imagine there are some things he lingers over. Laura doesn't seem too wistful to me! ;o)

Thanks for the ping, mtngrl! Another great insight into our increasingly lovable President's life!

mombonn, if you ever do buy that lottery ticket and win, can I come and meet these two lovely people with you?? (I don't buy them either! LOL!)

Clay Johnson, the White House personnel director who knows Mr. Bush from their prep school days at Andover. the Bushes had dinner at the White House with the Johnsons

Is this Agent Johnson, or the other Agent Johnson?

It was then that Representative Tom DeLay, Republican of Texas, told the group ? a participant well schooled in the ways of partisan combat said ?
Just gotta get in that dig.

Mr. Johnson was Mr. Bush's chief of staff when the president was governor of Texas.
Is this Agent Johnson, or the other Agent Johnson?

It galls me to see poorly written articles like this. I write better than this, why don't I have a by-line?

It was then that Representative Tom DeLay, Republican of Texas, told the group — a participant well schooled in the ways of partisan combat said — that he had seen the name of Kenneth L. Lay, the former chairman of Enron, in the guest book of his cabin. The entry, he said, dated from the Clinton administration.

This made me laugh. From the Clinton years, huh?

...or having dinner on matching TV trays with Laura — one of the more memorable images of Ronald and Nancy Reagan during their White House years.

The NYT just had to get in a sly dig at President Reagan, didn't they?
