both Shays-Mehan & McCain's bill are totally anti-free speech and nazi-esque. But I heard on the radio that there was a new feature to this bill that is very positive IMHO. It would double the individual limit of donations to a candidate from $1,000 to $2,000. That would be very positive. It would make it easier for american citizens to give money and would free the politicians from having to beg to the big PACs. If individual politicians find it much easier to raise money, then they won't be so beholden to the parties and the big pacs that give all that soft money.

It's going from $2000 to $4000 according to a USATODAY article...

EXCERPT - "The legislation would double to $4,000 the maximum an individual can donate to a candidate: $2,000 for a primary and another $2,000 for the general election...The limits have been frozen at $1,000 for a primary and $1,000 for a general election since they were first set in 1974. "
