The Boy Scouts say they aren't going to back off their rule prohibiting homosexuals.
Since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2000 that the Boy Scouts have the right to set their own standards for leaders, they've been criticized by homosexual activists. But the latest attacks are coming from within.
Recently, the National Scout Council faced three resolutions to allow homosexuals to become Boy Scout leaders. National Scout spokesman Gregg Shields said the Scout board voted to stand by its oath to God and country.
"The Boy Scouts have always stood for traditional, American family values and that's 92 years long," Shields said. "The Boy Scout Oath has not changed a word. And we don't recognize or offer leadership positions to avowed homosexuals or atheists."
Peter LaBarbera, of the Culture and Family Institute with Concerned Women for America, said it is not easy to withstand the kind of pressure that the Scouts are facing.
"You've got the homosexual lobby, you've got liberal Scout leaders in various liberal cities who are trying to pressure them to change the policy," LaBarbera said. "So, this is a good sign that they are not caving in. Parents are obviously worried about pedophilia, and so I think the grassroots are supporting the Boy Scouts."
In this age of compromise, Bob Knight, also of the Culture and Family Institute, is encouraged by the Scouts' moral stand.
"It's more important to protect boys from homosexuality and to stand up for God than it is to stand for political correctness," Knight said.
The Boys Scouts of America recently began its 92nd year of training boys to honor God and country.
The opponents to the Boy Scouts of America see that this organization is a direct thread and impediment to their campaign to destroy the standards that made this country great.
To all Scouts of every age I say, "LET'S ROLL!"
Now thats going to piss off some people.... I bet we see some sort of gov. action/sanction against the scouts soon
THE SCOUT OATH:
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
They have responded with courage, humility, character and honor. Hey, I wonder if they were ever Boy Scouts? ;^)
