Take a day and read Ralph Peters Fighting for the Future. The application of overwhelming force is the foundation for defeating terrorism. You may have a quite idealistic objection to spilling innocent blood, but withou doing so the victories that defeated Fascism would have not happened.

I haven't travelled much outside the U.S. but I looked out my window and saw those towers collapse and learned that two kids I had taught died going up those stairs. I'm not interested in alliances and understanding grievances. I don't care to ask why they hate us. It's clear that they hate us enough to try to kill 50,000 people. Yes that was their goal. If Iran has this murderer they will turn him over. If they fail to then the consequences for what happens is on them. I'm sorry you can't accept that these attitudes are based on much more than simple vengeance. They are now a necessity to prevent greater evil from occurring.

There is little connection between terrorism aimed at us and at Israel in cause. Israel is seen as a foreign power occupying and living on Arab land. They find themselves in a sea of diaffected and angry people, and they have not used overwhelming force. They selectively target leaders and installations. They have not done to the West Bank what we did to Hamburg and Dresden, though they have as much cause.

If you feel that force is not effective tell me, where is the Arab Street, so vocal in September and October. Why is Saddam even hinting at allowing inspections? Why is it even remotely possible to believe Iran has arrested this terrorist. Because these factions are eager to assist us in our trial?? Of course not!!!It's because they have seen the use, restrained as it was, of deadly force with the promise of more to come.

These terrorists want us dead, not because of poverty and tyranny. How many of these hijackers came from El Salvador or Ruwanda?? They want us dead because we represent something anathema to their belief system. After you finish reading Ralph Peters pick up Sam Huntington and Victor Davis Hanson. You will not be convinced but you may come away with the feeling that those of us who seek retribution, if you will, are not the simplistic murderers and baby killers you think we are now or thought we were thirty years ago.
