No, I think that's wrong. I'm new to the fishing sciene and to the Keys, but I've been listening to a conservative fishing show every afternoon as I work. From what I can understand, unlimited sport fishing in the Keys would reduce many populations drastically. Say what you will about whether they should just be allowed to dwindle and them come up again when the Fishermen are gone, but there are enough sport fishermen here now to do some real damage.

Fishing show? Funny that you should memntion the keys. I fished, with a friend of mine one time, about 5 miles south east of Bahia Honda State Park. Right where the coral rief drops off from aprox 20 ft to about 40 ft. That's where the large fish come in to feed on the small fish.

We were there with another aprox 35 boats, looking for a strike from a King Mackeral, maybe two strikse, if it was a good day. Suddenly, along came a comercial boat. It pulled in a thousand Kings, right in front of us, with a comercial cable.One after the other.

If that is true the answer if just to subsidise beer for the sport fisherman. The more they drink the less they will catch.
