Carter Rips Bush on 'Axis' Label

ATLANTA- Former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday criticized President Bush's labeling three countries an "axis of evil," saying the statement was "overly simplistic and counterproductive."

Carter said Bush's statement seriously jeopardized progress made with North Korea, Iran and Iraq in recent years.

"I think it will take years before we can repair the damage done by that statement," said Carter, speaking at an Emory University conference on the impact of terrorism.

Carter also said the growing gap between the rich and the poor continues to be the world's greatest challenge, although he noted that many terrorists falsely claim to be among the world's destitute.

"We are very concerned now about terrorism. Osama bin Laden is not poor, he's very rich - and the people who committed those horrible acts on Sept. 11 were not poor," he said.

The damage done by the Carter administration still has not been repaired. The worst thing he did was give away the Panama Canal. The next worse was his being soft in the Middle East--the beginning of what we are having to put up with now.

There was nothing about Carters foolishness that was benign.People paid for this "fool" with their lives then, and continue to suffer now.The obvious difference between Carter and Clinton, Carter ruined the USA due to stupidity, Clinton ruined the USA do to greed. Neither reason rates respect.

I see the thread is taking a kind view of Pres Carter. Everybody is being respectful :)
We'll remember him as the president who placed millions and millions of acres of Alaska off-limits to development or even homesteading with his national monuments and national parks. What's ANILCA?

Carter can't rip anyone - least of all our President, George Ww. Bush. Carter was never ripped from end to end like he ought to have been for his "malise" economy and inaction on the Iranian hostages. His leadership was non-existant.

CARTER - OUR WEAKEST PRESIDENT IN THE LAST 65 YEARS!

If you think about it, Carter really performs a vital public service. Anytime you're unsure if Bush is doing or saying the right thing, just ask JC what he thinks. If he doesn't like it, you know Bush is spot-on.

I lived in Europe during the Carter Presidency and believe me, it took years to repair the damage of that man being president....the europeans actually laughed that this bozo was the president of the united states....thank goodness, America woke up and voted this idiot out of office.

It took us years to repair the damage done by the Carter presidency....

The job ain't finished yet. His withdrawal of support for the Shah of Iran, and the subsequent handover of Iran to a bunch of fanatics, gave the Islamic fundamentalists their first major victory. His weakness and vacillation gave them every reason to believe that they could take on America, and win. The mess in which we now find ourselves embroiled has a lot to do with the incompetence of this peanut farmer, who for my money was underqualified to be Mayor of Plains, Georgia. For him to criticize any president's handling of Iran is beyond absurd, even for him. To he** with this doddering old fool.

I thought he handled the killer rabbit incident well, but I wonder if we have the full story of his UFO sighting.

"I think it will take years before we can repair the damage done by that statement,"

Liberals are just as dangerous as Islamic Fundamentalists, if not more so.

Liberals let 57,000 Americans die in vain in Vietnam, and set the stage for 9-11-01.

If there was one single U.S. action that precipitated 9-11-01, it was U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia. Both liberals AND conservatives have been responsible for that.

Which would be . . . . ?

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, don't be coming out here without your nail apron.

Go back with fifty weekend warriors whacking together a crackerbox.

You surrendered our Panama Canal built with the guts, brains, and deaths of better men than you.

You went hinge-heel before the bluster of the murderous midget Castro.

You betrayed our ally Taiwan and embraced our enemy China.

You allowed a mob of maniacs to oust our ally and kidnap our countrymen.

You were a pipsqueak when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan.

You were clueless and cowardly in the face of every crisis foreign and domestic.

Your current hissy fit is proof positive that we're on the right track.
