Doesn't Sharon's reaction simply feed into the propaganda line of Muslim radicals that all Jewish journalists are really Israeli agents? Pearl was a U.S. citizen. Sharon should pipe down and let the United States handle this. Any Israeli action, even if effective, would likely make matters worse, not better, for Americans abroad.

I think Sharon was reacting to Pearls status as a Jew, not an American. It's a message to terrorists who may opt to murder a Jewish British reporter next week. I don't see how it puts American's at risk. I don't think it will deter any attacks, but it's not much of a new policy, Israel's done it before. As OkieGrit2 pointed out in 16, Israel will "do it", America won't.

If through changing circumstances in Pakistan, these guys are walking the street in a few years, I think America should treat them like the terrorists they are and eliminate them if possible. Taking a "they went through the legal system stance", as WJC would have done, would put American's at greater risk, and in fact did.
