Yes, this is true. The patient is pronounced dead and the death certificate signed. But, in all other aspects, the body is still being monitored, blood being drawn and hydration continues to ensure viability of the organs for harvest.

The most difficult duty as a Respiratory Therapist was being assigned ventilatory management of organ donars.

Very Sad....I had a friend who was killed by a red wasp sting in Poetry TX a few years back and I remember they "harvested" his organs as well. It seemed like such a macabre term..."harvested". Your job must be tough indeed at times...especially with the wee ones.
