Saying that Arafat is important to peace is like saying selling drugs at schools is good for education...

No matter that Arafat has ordered American and Jews around the world to DIE.
No matter that Palestinians burn US flags around the world. Powell and his Hamas-run US State Dept STILL protect him.

Arafat useful to the peace process? What piece of the peace process is that or is this deliberate doublespeak on the part of the administration? It could be a hold and buy time action.

The Bush administration is not branding Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat a terrorist
because there is more he can do to further the Mideast peace process, Secretary of State Colin Powell said Tuesday.
And just how is he "useful"? From your statement I can only conclude that,
1 you're dumber than a small pile of rocks,
2 smoking something funny.
So which is it Colin? Dumb or stoned?

Under Clinton Arafat was a beloved guest in the White House on a regular basis. Under Bush, he is a prisoner and one degree of separation from being exiled and called a terrorist. I call that progress. Bush is painting Arafat into a corner.

Arafat has been around for 32 years of stalemate. Time for a change. Also, why do we have two policies in respect to terrorism? Having one policy for the world and one for Palestine is both weak amd confusing.

Hamas-protecting Sec. of State Powell suggests Americans and Jews stock up on smaller coffins for their children's graves,
now that his Department is solidly harboring the Palestinian murderers and terrorists.

One wonders if we are hearing what's really going on in the administration. Certainly, what we have been hearing with regard to Arafat is a load of hogwash. Arafat cannot tell the truth and is an impudent opportunist and a murderer. To the degree that this administration coddles him, it loses its moral authority.
Please act quickly, Mr. Bush.

LOL!
If Arafat was not a terrorist and was acting in the best interest of his ppl, he'd accept Israel's one way ticket out of Israel
There will NEVER be peace or a Palestinian state with him in power. If he truly cared about his ppl, he'd step aside and let someone else take over who may be able to achieve peace.

Right out of Orwell's 1984.
Arafat will make the unrest in the middle east persist.
If you can make it appear that you are at a constant state of war, the population at large is much easier to control. They will put up with things like assinine security regimens at airports, the government having greater access to their bank records, etc., etc.
Therefore Arafat must not die or be removed from power.

SPLAT!!!!
(That's the sound of Dubya's poll numbers hitting the floor)

" "I'd like to see Chairman Arafat denounce the terrorist activities that are taking place, the constant attacks." dubya Well Mr. President, many would like to see you admit that Arafat is a terrorist...and to discontinue attempts to negotiate with this world renowned terrorist.
The terrorists behind Arafat are emboldened by the fact that Bush and the UN protects Arafat...
To: Oldeconomybuyer
if arafat is not a terrorist who is a terrorist?
To: dennisw
Colin Powell, who is somewhat naive, being used by the dirty old bas**d Yassir Arafat.

Powell said exactly the same things this morning to E.D. on
FOX & Friends this morning when she interviewed him.
The administration is talking out of both sides of its mouth.
