SACRAMENTO - As Democratic legislative leaders attempt to line up Republican support for a $99 billion spending plan, they are facing a small but growing rebellion among members of their own party.

Two Assembly Democrats -- Helen Thomson of Davis and Dean Florez of Bakersfield -- have said they can't commit to backing it. Now others are raising concerns about everything from the $3.9 billion in proposed new taxes to estimates that a $9.8 billion deficit awaits the state next year if the current plan is adopted.

Wow. We should "put it on the front burner in years ahead".

Perhaps if he'd put it on the front burner when he prepared the budget, we wouldn't be in such a fix?

I still don't understand why this is a "tight" budget when it's $20bln over what last year's budget cost.

It's tight because if they had their way, it'd be FIFTY billion over. The governmental 'need' for our dollars is infinite.

Although I feel sorry for Californians, I don't regret for one second moving back to Florida 6 years ago.

No state income tax.
No emissions checks.
You can go 80 in the 70 zones without being pulled over.
70 zones everywhere.
CCW "shall issue" law.
My .357 in the glove box, completely legal, with no need for registration, permission, forms, permision, permission, no hassle at all.
The .357 in the car-behind-me's glovebox, keeping me safe from carjackers at the stop light (we back each other up, as a common courtesy).
Those .357's backing up our outstanding police force, if need arises (we'll be there for ya).
"Right to Work" state.
Jeb.
No Barbara Boxer, Fienstein, Willie Brown, etc.
Republican Senate.
Republican House.
No Spotted Owls.
No Endangered insects.
Aligators!!!! Wimpy tree huggers don't dare venture into the 'glades.
College football. We rule.

I'm not so sure I would be so blithe about that. You also have Sustainable Florida and eco-land grabs for the benefit of developers, busybody socialists, bureaucrats, and banks, just like we do in California! They're working hard, and it's only a matter of time.

FLORIDA IS ON ITS WAY TO BEING JUST LIKE THE STATE YOU LEFT!

Maybe you were better off to stand and fight than to cut and run?

Add 700 species of fish in the Indian River, Homestead exemption, no snow and ice,and a 6% sales tax. Nothing to bit*h about except the socialists from NY retiring down here.
