SACRAMENTO - Attempting to right his foundering, financially struggling gubernatorial campaign, Republican Bill Simon on Wednesday fired nearly two dozen staff members, many of whom were let go without being offered severance pay.

Up to one-third of the staff was dismissed or asked to find other jobs with the state Republican Party as part of a plan to free up more campaign money for costly television ads.

A chimp should be able to beat Davis after his record-breaking string of major bungles. The Simon campaign, like the RNC in general, has no appetite for hard ball politics, no sense of humor, no killer instinct whatsoever.

We in California just groan watching Republicans get slaughtered, it's getting tiresome.

What 'good people' do when revenues fail to live up to expectations, and they lack the 'taxing authority'--CUT EXPENSES--and do the best they can with what they have.

Where is the 'call' from the media for a 'level playing field' when the LIBERAL has the 'war chest' advantage?

The 'Left' is hell bent on destroying representative government, and their 'sheeple' happily buy the 'bread and circus' as they head, and drag us along, to eventual slaughter.

Beg to differ. The campaign has plenty of the above, but not enough money.

"We in California just groan watching Republicans get slaughtered, it's getting tiresome."
Groan all you want. Send in a check. If you don't like Simon, send ten bucks to Tom McLintock or to a Republican assembly candidate.

Stop whining.

Take action.

$5M cash on hand is not going to get the job done. If that is the best Simon and the handful of native California Republicans can do, they don't deserve to win. California belongs to the Dems, just like the ChiComs live in the PRC and the french live in France.

I signed up for the monthly donation on Simon's site - sending in $50 a month through November.

Kind of a negative slant to this article!

This headline is more accurate:

Simon's election staff is halved in cost-cutting move

calgov2002:

calgov2002: for old calgov2002 articles.

calgov2002: for new calgov2002 articles.

The Simon campaign is acting very much like the primary was the 'important' election.

Since the primary they've done basically nothing.

If Bill Simon's campaign was a computer game, it would be "Daikatana".

I get a call from the RNC at least once a week. I explain to them that when I see some spine from the Republicans, that's when I'll give up my hard earned money. They do NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING. I've given up and look forward to moving out of this state when I retire.

Aw c'mon... They're on track now. In fact, Simon ought to be mopping the floor with Davis by about mid-December.

This brings images of the "Battle of Bunker Hill", when the command came: "Don't shoot till you see the whites of their eyes."

The Patriots were low on ammo and saved it where it counted.

Yes, this may be too optimistic, but it may have been thought we were too optimistic to take on the Red Coats. Didn't we win? Let's take on "Red Davis"!

Bill Simon must "take action" or he'll get rolled over just like any candidate who refuses to play hardball when the stakes are this high. What Gray Davis has done to our state is a disaster, and he must be attacked head on. So far, Simon is acting like LA mayor Hahn, a pleasant but boring talking head. He can win, he SHOULD win, but he better show cajones.

How about this for good news? Simon leads in ALL polls, except the Field Poll, which is notoriously inaccurate and is fundamentally flawed in its sample.
