Design California's new 25-cent coin! (And bash Greyout too!)

DESIGN CALIFORNIA'S NEW 25-CENT COIN!
As Slate.com points out today, the new state quarters are horribly ugly. And guess what? The state of California is now soliciting design ideas for its own butt-ugly quarter. The common complaint about these unattractive coins is that taste-blind bureaucrats just throw together a bunch of elements -- a trumpet, music notes, a pelican and a map of the Louisiana Purchase in this horrid example. So let's keep it simple, for the sake of art. The staff of LA Examiner humbly offers our own design.

Here is my design idea:
Off the freeway down be San Diego, there is a sign which looks quite like the signs that have silhouettes of deer, large falling rocks, etc., which are meant to warn drivers about possible harzards on the road. This particular sign is the silhouette of a male in the lead, followed by a female who is holding the hand of a young child. They are bent forward running, and the sign is posted as if to tell drivers: "watch for illegals sneaking into California, don't run them over". I think a repro of this sign would be perfect.

GENITALS ON BOTH SIDES AND THAT SHOULD ABOUT COVER IT!

Great. How does substituting "GIMME" for "GIVE ME" strike you?

"watch for illegals sneaking into California, don't run them over"You sure it's not "Watch for illegals - run them over?" [g]

I submitted a real design for the Arkansas quarter, but it was rejected:
The Bowie knife was probably too violent an image, or something.

Great point, the sign is certainly open to different interpretations. If you have not seen it, you must. It is hysterical.
But the women should have be dragging a few more kids.

This WAS rejected - right? There has to be a better way...

I keep a Massachussetts quarter on my desk. Not because I have any love for the Peoples' Republik of Taxachussetts, but because their coin-committee had the intestinal fortitude to include a Minutman holding his musket. Hats off to them for that.

I always thought it was amazing that out of all the things left-wing Massachusetts could choose to glorify on their quarter, they have a white male holding a gun. LOL!

According to Slate, that's the MO quarter that'll be released next year.

Note how the child is flying.

What annoys me about those signs around Camp Pendleton is that the southern set just have the picture; the northern set have a sign underneath that says "PROHIBIDO."
What will happen is that (a) the illegal aliens will see the signs with and without the PROHIBIDO, and assume that they are supposed to cross at the ones without PROHIBIDO under them; (b) they will get hit by a car; and (c) an ambulance-chasing attorney will get a dumb jury to give the illegals (or their survivors) millions of my tax dollars.

You sure that isn't a sign of the mass exodus of people fleeing the insanity of California?

I think so, if it were us Kalifornians leaving we would be in a vehicle, but at a dead stop on the freeway.
