Davis during the debate said: In education, we have raised standards, imposed strict accountability, improved teacher training.
Here's a great example of Davis' improved education... a riot in a San Francisco school, overcrowded with 200 new students!
San Francisco -- Simmering tensions at Thurgood Marshall High School in San Francisco's Bayview district erupted into disturbances Friday as scores of baton-wielding police officers were brought in to break up clashes among students in the hallway.

Gray Davis: "WE HAVE RAISED STANDARDS"...
With standards like this, no wonder our schools are nearly the worst in the country!

Government schools, especially in California, are damaged beyond any hope of repair. I say jettison the system and privatize education completely.

Raised our standards?
Ok, you are not going to believe what I'm about to post, so I'll do it in the form of a suggested question.
Ask any kid, not one homeschooled or going to a Christian school, but any kid going to public school in California what the Americian Revolution was and when.
Then ask them how and when slavery ended in the USA.

Thanks, Bones.....

In response to your posit, I can only offer this theoretical exchange... (barf warning)
Question: what the Americian Revolution was and when.
A: It was when the new people came down and gave all the native people smallpox and sickness. They over threw the blood and then made like the you-know. you know. (hand motioning)
Q: Then ask them how and when slavery ended in the USA.
A: Cause it's like you know... slavery is still happening you know. The rich people is keeping the grassroots folk down that's why we need the people to march against the imperialistic tendencies of the elite. (/sarc)

Appears there is not a single parent willing to raise a voice in defense of law enforcement, even though the police were protecting the innocent kids from a riot and the school from destruction.
(After re-reading my own reply, maybe it's because they're mostly all SINGLE parents!)

Oh, hell, ask them their FULL LEGAL NAME!
Bonus question: Without looking, how many fingers and toes do you have?
To: bonesmccoy
Wow, teachers versus police. Hard to choose sides with such a respectable cast of characters on either side, LOL.
Abolishing the schools would cut that Gordian knot.

Thurgood Marshall High School This is all you need to read to understand.

Close down all public schools and let people get their kids educated (or not educated) any way they can manage either through private schools, homeschools, or whatever.
Kalifornia (aka Kalifornia taxpayers) would save billions and the kids would probably be better off - even those who choose not to learn anything but just hang out on the corner and smoke dope. At least they wouldn't have their minds irreparably poisoned by the current PC system and they might eventually get a job which would be useful.
Could it be any worse than it is now?

Not sure what a "gordian knot" is... fill me in...
The schools are useful to teach the citizenry.
It is difficult to know who is more incorrect, the law enforcement agency for a ridiculously liberal city like San Francisco that over-reacts like a Chicago PD in 1968; or a bunch of liberal teachers over-reacting like Abby Hoffman inciting riots!
Instead of bashing high school kids, these officers should be busting the drug dealing in town!

Q: Could it be any worse than it is now?
A: Yes, Gray Davis could be re-elected. Go Simon!

"Thurgood Marshall High School

I went to Marhall High School in Los Angeles in the early 50s and it was a pretty good school then as far as public schools go, which isn't saying much.

You went to Marshall High School in Los Angeles in the 50s. Was it named after Thurgood Marshall, the first black Supreme Court judge?
