When Gov. Gray Davis proposed midyear budget cuts last week, few programs were spared.

Adult Medi-Cal recipients would have to do without dental care. Disabled people were asked to forgo a cost-of-living increase in monthly grants. People who recently escaped welfare would lose their guarantee of subsidized child care. Scores of road projects could be delayed.

The irony here is hilarious.

Protecting the public safety by arresting, prosecuting, and incarcerating criminals is one thing that governemtn is supposed to do. Redistribution of income, handouts, "free" drugs and health care, "free" money, ie., welfare, subsidized housing, etc. - - these are some of the things that government has no business doing.

But of course, all this "free" stuff is how Democrat scumbag politicos buy their votes. And so what to do, what to do...?

If criminals are released, guess where they will go? Yep, right back to the Democrat neighborhoods they came from, LOFL!!

When Gray Davis put the arm on the teachers' union for a million, they refused, but the prison guards ponied up.

"The power of the prison guard union in California is unparalleled," Schiraldi said.

Weymouth, who has worked for 20 years in education and social services, said the Department of Corrections "is sucking us dry and creating more problems with crime than it fixes."

I'd like to know more about this hypothesis. How do prisons "create more problems with crime than it fixes?"
