It's funny, my wife and I talked yesterday about retiring in Nevada, or perhaps Washington state (no state income tax).

Yep. Me and the woman are looking at these same two States. I used to have a gorgeous house in the mountains around Reno/Tahoe that I bought for less than what would get you a cardboard box in Silicon Valley. We're thinking about buying/building a place around the Douglas County area of Lake Tahoe, or possibly up around Incline Village. Give me another twelve months and I'll be on my way back there. I always loved Nevada anyway.

I thought Tom McClintock had the best shot of any Republican to stop the sweep of the Democrats!

Here are my random thoughts on this debacle..
1. First of all, I'm glad that Gray won so that he has to clean up this pile of excrement he and the rest of the bleeding-heart liberals have heaped upon our heads rather than trying to blame the whole mess on the Republicans, if Simon had won...
2. We went down to Cambria (by Hearst Castle) over the weekend and the hotel owner told us dogs were no longer allowed on the beach to help "protect" the snowy plover- a bird that builds nests on the beach. (The owner told us that the birds aren't even on the beach at this time of year. Dogs were OK back in September...)It's nice to see that the department of do-gooders and busy bodies is still fully funded by the state.
3. In Cambria we met a woman who is originally from the Phillipines. She works for the State Dept. of Corrections in San Luis Obispo. She said that in the Phillipines, prisoners were given food, water, shelter- anything else they wanted had to be provided by their families. So, TVs, books, special diets, etc... are provided by the prisoners families, if they so desire. She told us (she's an accountant) that the state spends $80,000 to $100,000 per year to "rehabilitate" sex offenders. Sounds like a few bucks could be saved there.
4. At Hearst Castle there are nice, new signs welcoming you to the State Parks by Governor Gray Davis and whoever the Lt Gov. is. Gee, I wonder how much the upkeep is for those signs that will eventually be replaced. It doesn't seem like a good use of taxpayer money.
5. The Coastal Commission and environmentalists have a strangle-hold on this state. Want to build a home along the coast? Be prepared to pay a fortune for any permit (bribe). The party of compassion and the little people have made owning coastal property or building along the coast cost-prohibitive to the "little people" Only the rich and extremely patient people are able to build. The pine trees around my in-laws are falling like matchsticks. It costs $1,000 for permits and a review to remove dead trees that are hazardous to people and property.
6. California could make a fortune by allowing off-shore drilling. The state of Alaska does not have a sales tax or state income tax AND it "shares" a portion of it's oil revenue with each and every resident of the state. My liberal sister in Alaska calls the lack of sales tax and no income tax "entitlements" that the people of the state are unwilling to give up. Letting people keep the money they earn is an entitlement???? Weird logic....
7. Davis is anti-business, anti-housing and anti-people. Try making it lucrative for businesses in this state. Try freeing up land for people to build houses. It'll never happen on his watch.
8. Davis hopes to increase state revenue by increasing cigarette taxes to $1.67. Duh, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that that revenue is going to dry up when people figure out how to buy cigs from out of state.
9. Davis said he's going to increase the state sales tax by 1%- that means in Santa Clara County the sales tax will be 9.25% This is the reason I buy anything on line if I can avoid the sales tax.

These are just a few things that are annoying about the useful idiots who run this state with the blessing of the morons who voted them in.....

I used to live in the SLO/Cambria area. I moved out of state when I couldn't make it as a building contractor in the area. Too many taxes, too much regulation, too high of insurance cost. I felt like I had a bullseye painted on my back.

This is the reason I buy anything on line if I can avoid the sales tax. Davis is trying to close that "loophole", too.

wonder how the State of Texas gets by with no state income tax???

(1) socialism
(2) supporting 10000000 illegals
(3) astronomical corruption

debt increases each year by an amount nearly equal to taxes state receives
