Francisco Esparza, a construction worker from Sylmar, said that while his income is limited, he'd rather pay more in taxes than witness a decline in services, especially police. Esparza said he travels regularly to Tecate, Mexico, to visit his 5-month-old son and immediately notices the higher quality of services and infrastructure in the United States.

Yeah, he doesn't mind the higher taxes and likes our infrastructure better than Mexico's....He's probably one of the bottom 50% that's paying almost nothing in taxes, but is sucking up a lot of social services. Glad you like the amenities that other people are paying for, buddy.

I wonder if he's one of those "contractors" who pays no income or SSI or Medicare tax at all, maybe not even here legally so especially likes the nice services provided by the taxpayers.

I'm not going to worry if they have to pay a lot more taxes. They re-elected a tax-and-spend democrat so things should only get worse. I think Texas will solve it's budget problems because Perry is insisting there won't be more taxes.

I read in another article where a dozen Califronia lawmakers requested and reciever SUV's valued at about $30,000 each!, and at tax payer expense no less. And people wonder why the state is in a deficet situation. If the state lawmakers and legislateurs took a pay cut and didn't spenk tax payers money on frivolous items the deficent wouldn't be as great.

Last year the city of San Jose applied for a $1 million grant from the state to purchase land for trails. I'd be interested to know if that grant program is still in the budget.

I've always felt that as the total govt tax rake approaches 50% people who are self-employed or are professionals (people who have some control over their income) will forgoe income in favor of free time. Over 50%, people of all political stripes will instinctively revolt, avoid taxes, cheat, or plain not work.
