I think you need to do a little more reading up on this school. It is anything but "elite". It is for kids who haven't been functioning even at the low levels which are normal for the NYC public schools, and offers "academics" like "culinary programs" -- i.e. classes aimed at helping these kids get absolutely bottom-rung jobs, like short-order cook, since most of them are at serious risk of never getting any job at all. College-bound kids of any sexual orientation will definitely want to attend school elsewhere.
FYI, the often quoted $10,000/year spending per student in NYC does NOT include the colossal budget of the corruption/nepotism/mob saturated NYC School Construction Authority. Most of the money mentioned in previous articles about this gay school refers to the upfront construction (actually renovation/remodelling) expense. There is no evidence that this school is spending more per student than any other NYC public school.
