Kerry now calling Bush a Deserter

Posted on 01/24/2004 8:27:13 AM PST by John Redcorn

Once again the Democrat campaign reeks of hypocrisy. Kerry is now publicly calling Bush a deserter, but Clinton got a free pass on blatant draft-dodging. The liberal media is blasting all Republicans over a few GOP staffers cracking Democrat memo files, but it was OK for Clinton to illegally procure over 900 FBI personnel files for use against his political opponents. Slick Willy had his bootlickerWesley Clark intervene in a civil war, bomb Yugoslavia into a parking lot, create 500,000 refugees, and destroy the country's infrastructure (all without the blessing of the UN, I might add), but the war in Iraq is immoral. These people make me sick.

You're right. The veterans traditionally support the Republicans. I doubt this will make any difference.

As a Vietnam vet myself I think the points made above about this issue need to be answered. It is not out of line to ask the Commander-in-Chief to clarify it once and for all. Bush brought this on HIMSELF

This was hashed out back in 2000 and it has been settled--like the counting in Florida--for years.

President Bush served and received an Honorable Discharge. And all the deceitful spinning and twisting the dems brought up back then were answered time and again at that time.

How come Bob Dole's military record against Clinton didn't count? How come George Bush Seniors' military record against Bill CLinton didn't count? It only counts when you are a Democrat. What's more, Kerry came back from Vietnam and formed Vietnam Veterans Against the War. In one of their more extreme rituals many of them tossed their medals over the White House fence in protest. Of course, Mr. Kerry who had a long term political agenda, didn't do it. I mean, do we really want that footage to come back and haunt us? Kinda like the way AL Qaida leadership never strap on bombs and martyr themselves (that's for the dumb riff raff, don't you know).

Your mask slipped.

I arguably have a face that could use one but I am a conservative. I supported McCain in '00 and voted for Bush that fall. I am not the KoolAid drinking NeoCon Republican that one sees from time to time on the net.

As a veteran, I find aspects of Bush's service questionable. As a resident of Southern California, I find his immigration proposal a disaster. Will I vote for him again? I may or I might stay home. His immigration stance has outraged a LOT of the GOP base because we are being taken for granted on a issue of national security. There is NO difference on this issue among EITHER party. Bush wants to try and get ten percent of their vote, and guarantee cheap labor for the businesses that exploit them. The democrats what to keep 'em coming because of the 90 percent who vote their way. This is NOT new.

Hope this folds up any red flags my post may have raised with you. Perhaps if I was wearing that mask Karl Rove wears you might not have doubts about my conservatism?

Oh, just some silly notion about veterans who take questions of duty and honor more seriously than a particular political affiliation.

Don't lose any sleep over it on my account. It's not going to go anywhere.

Sooo good, Casloy, I felt compelled to re-post your post, and add a little more umph to it ;-) (all caps)

Also, wasn't the truth about W that if someone in the Guard couldn't serve at that specific time, all they had to do was make up that time at a different time, and W did???

Boy, when you haven't got much to work with (the dems) you sure grasp at straws to make a point.

Boy, when you can't argue the record (the dems) you sure look obvious you haven't much to go on, by arguing the person.

BECOME A PRECINCT WALKER IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. It only takes:

~ a couple hours on a Saturday to learn,

~ a few hours on a weekend to hand out material to only registered Republican voters and urge them to vote, and

~ a couple hours on Election Day to let your neighbors know that someone cares about their getting out and voting.

That's it, and you've made a difference! It feels great.

Bush brought this on HIMSELF, and the longer he avoids clearing it up, the longer this issue will fester.

President Bush's military service was thoroughly examined in '00 by most people who cared. I don't have all of the details, but he didn't just spend a year to no account. As I remember it, the sequence was:

1. The plane on which he had trained was being phased out of service. Vietnam was winding down, and the military was dumping pilots. I work with a guy who was a Navy pilot from that time. We've never talked about it from a political perspective, but I've heard him telling stories about how pilots were being phased out of the service because there was no place for them.

2. George Bush was shuffled into a reserve unit to finish his service period. He was looking for work and was interested in helping a senate candidate in Alabama. He was hired by that campaign and had his service location transferred to Alabama.

3. The unit to which he was assigned didn't take things seriously. Instead of drilling for a weekend a month, they met for a few hours in the evening once a week or so. Many members treated it as a club, and few attended as regularly as they should. George Bush fell into this habit as well.

4. When the time came for him to leave the service, he was living in Houston again, and the issue of his missed drills had to be resolved before he could be discharged. He went to the Air Force and served a month of active duty doing whatever they needed in order to fulfill his obligation.

5. He was honorably discharged.

Certainly this history doesn't make him a hero, but it doesn't show any flaws either. In wanting to fly planes for the military, he was following his father's footsteps. There's nothing wrong with that desire or taking steps to pursue it. He didn't make it into a front line plane, but there's nothing to indicate that he was trying to shirk service. He was wrong to skip drills in Alabama, but when the unit is being handled the way that his unit was being handled, I don't see a major issue in his following what was a common practice. The important point is that he made everything right before he left the service.

For those who are determined to run him down, no explanation will matter. Maybe you are one of those people. For the rest of us, the truth shows that the charge of desertion is just a partisan, Democrat lie.

You are way over the top! Not to mention a new poster as of this month -- did you come on when Clark told his people to go on FR and defend him? If not, your postings sure seem odd for a new poster! Or have you been here before and come back with a new screen name? Excuse my skepticism but what I have seen in the last few months of all the negative attacks on Pres Bush by new posters leaves one with impression that it is not a coincidence.

This subject was completely covered by the media in 2000 and for your information the Boston Globe took after WEASLEY CLARK for not contradicting that blowhole Moore and letting the question from Peter Jennings just stand there with I never checked the facts. So where have you been that you didn't know it has not only been covered but that WEASLEY CLARK has been condemned for not speaking up?

President Bush had more than enough hours in the TX Air National Guard to receive an honorable discharge. In fact, it was stated that he was one of the best fighter pilots that they had at the time. Anytime that was missed in Alabama was made up not to mention he flew a lot more hours than required when he completed pilot training.

Now you can take that information and believe it or keep right on posting your nonsense and be called on it everytime.

There is a deserter running, but that deserter is John Kerry who may have caused US Soldiers to die in Nam when he came back and turned traitor while our guys were still over there.

Skepticism is healthy, but paranoia is dangerous. It seems to me that you and your fellow posters would welcome new members and new ideas as long as rules of the site are followed. Talking amongst yourselves, agreeing with each other, "preaching to the choir" so to speak simply leads to a lack of growth. Do you want to have a forum with a free exchange of ideas or a chat room for oldtimers? In this regard I may truly be the interloper here. I firt heard about this site from Doug from Upland, who I enjoy immensly when he calls in to talk shows I regularly listen to. I may have misunderstood his characterization of the site. If that's the case I sincerely apologize. But I don't apologize for one word I have posted during my brief visit here. Good luck.
