If you have read The Reagan Diaries, there is a section where President Reagan was chagrined that we was being charged by his party with not being conservative enough.

At any rate, I think it is totally ridiculous to judge Reagan by today's standards, which you seem to be suggesting. The political world has moved forward at light-speed in the last 20 years.
