Mitt Romney tonight pushed back against those in his party who are questioning President Obama's citizenship, suggesting his fellow Republicans should put their energy into more substantive issues.
"The citizenship test has been passed," Romney said tonight on CNBC's Kudlow Report. "I believe the president was born in the United States. There are real reasons to get this guy out of office...but his citizenship isn't the reason why."
Several prominent Republicans -- including Donald Trump and Sarah Palin -- have once again tried to stoke controversy by questioning Obama's citizenship even though his birth in Hawaii has been confirmed by officials in the state.
Romney said he would welcome Trump into the Republican race, while sidestepping a question whether he views the business mogul as a chief rival.
"He's a new face and a new voice in the process," Romney said of Trump, who is leading in some recent national polls. "My view is, come on in the water's fine. The more the merrier."
Romney, in his first interview since announcing yesterday that he was formally exploring a presidential bid, also was asked several times about his biggest vulnerability: the Massachusetts health care plan. Today is the fifth anniversary of the law, which was used as a template for President Obama's national plan -- one that is despised by most Republicans.
Romney repeated his defense of the Massachusetts law, while arguing that Obama was usurping states rights by imposing a federal plan....

In fairness, we really don’t know for certain where he was born. That’s the point. Their is little documentation just who it is that occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
We certainly have a lot of wimpy Republicans who are afraid of asking questions for fear of what the Media will say.
Keep in mind that Romney’s own dad faced citizenship questions, but he was never much of a contender either...
This is the thing I never understood. Why would people on our side defend Obama? It boggles the mind.
I don’t know how many times i’ve gotten into verbal wars with conservatives who simply accept what the biggest liar on the planet says about his birth certificate.
Why would ANYONE give him or the Democrats the benefit of the doubt?

And it makes them look like gullible fools .
Their daily mantra is that Barry is a pathological liar , the epitome of deviousness.
Except when it comes to his undisclosed birth certificate
and unknown life particulars.
Suddenly they believe that Barry is as virtuous as Mother Teresa and as honest as George Washington.
All I ever hear is “I believe he was born here...” blah blah blah. What makes someone believe that if they’ve never seen the long form birth certificate? What other evidence do they have? Can Mitt Romney walk down the street and say that he believes everyone on that street was born here? I can’t.

Come to think of it. Has anyone seen Romney’s birth certificate? I am beginning to wonder.

The citizenship test? Is that at all like John Kerry’s global test?

Handler: oh, no, you do not want to be called a name. You need to say something that shows that you are decisive and firm, but nothing that would make Obama or the media upset. It’s all about The Media. They are who will make you President, Mitt.
Mitt: ok, then, what shoud I say?? What if he really wasn’t born in Hawaii??
Handler: look here. This is all you need to see. Here is a list of all the people who believe Obama. See? They are all sane, all strong media types. Here are the ones who question his legitimacy. Not very many,and they are all nuts. You need to get out there and say that you are Sure he was born in Hawaii, and you are sure he’s a citizen. His mother was a citizen. It doesn’t matter what the truth is; you need to go with the flow if you want that office.
Mitt: whew. Thanks. I’ll say it tonight.

'Believing' means nothing in this case, IMMHO. It means he has no facts, and he feels he has to say something. He is rattled, having his top position challenged so strongly and so swiftly.

Mr. Romney: Could you please explain how you know that Obama passed his citizenship test? That is, could you please show us some sample questions on that citizenship test, and, in addition, could you please tell us what citizenship documents Obama presented to you so that he was even eligible to take such a citizenship test.
1. NOTE: Mr. Romney, if you run for president, I say that you should also be required to take the same citizenship test that Obama has to take.
2. Also, why don't you VOLUNTARILY show us your long form birth certificate if we ask you, if you run for president?
3. Mr. Romney, Obama has told us that he was born in Hawaii at Kapiolani Hospital in 1961.
4. Mr. Romney, Could you please tell us how you know that Obama is telling us the truth when he tells us that he was born in Hawaii at Kapiolani Hospital in 1961, because if you have no absolute, concrete proof that Obama was born at Kapiolani Hospital in 1961, then, I'm sorry to say, Obama has not passed your imaginary citizenship test.
5. Mr. Romney, You do realize that during this upcoming 2012 presidential campaign, Obama becomes just another presidential candidate, that is, Obama has to prove all over again that he is who he says he is, and so he will have to present some legal document that he was born in the United States, in other words, Obama will have to register to take your citizenship test all over again, and pass it all over again.
6. However, this second time around, Obama will not be able to take the easy Romney Citizenship Test, because, instead, Obama will have to take the much harder Trump Citizenship Test, a test that I believe Obama may have a lot of problems with, especially with the specific question where Obama will have to write the name of the hospital where he was born.
Only an idiot would say what Romney says. Clearly he is too stupid to be president.
